Sweater Weather Wishes

It might be 75 degrees in Houston today but that sure wasn’t the case last week and I wouldn’t be surprised if it snows next week (kidding!). So today’s outfit is in hopes that Houston isn’t done with the winter weather quite yet! Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t be opposed to pulling out my spring clothes but I feel like we just put them away less than 2 months ago. My winter clothes would be jealous if they only got to come out of hiding for such a short time. 🙂

These velour pants were my proudest find after the J Crew fall clearance sale. I scored them along with a few other pairs for $7. No, I didn’t leave a digit off of that price tag! They seemed too good to be true and I still think that they are. I wear them almost once a week to work while its cold because they are so comfortable and warm. Their rich color makes them a triple threat! I’ve linked a similar, more expensive pair below but I highly recommend hitting up your local outlet mall to find a pair. Since we are heading into spring, most stores have their winter stuff on major sale and I have seen these velour pants at many stores!

These booties were a splurge this season and well worth every penny. If I had a dollar for every compliment I have received I could buy another pair! I know the price tag is pretty big but if you are looking for some high quality booties I would highly recommend these. I always try to link a cheaper option for you as well so here are some very similar booties for only $38.

I hope you all are enjoying your week. It’s a four day work week for me which is exciting but somehow my short weeks seem to be my busiest! Anyone else have that problem? Last night I had a blog event, tonight I have bible study and tomorrow I have wine club, but I can’t complain because I secretly love being busy!

Date Night Ready

Valentine’s Day is officially 2 days away and I wanted to leave you guys with this darling lace detail dress. Lace is one of the most feminine and dainty looks and pairing that with the color red sure does make for a perfect and elegant Valentine’s look. So I couldn’t end the week of Valentine’s Day inspired posts without a girly red dress and my top date night ideas. The thing is, it doesn’t matter if your Valentine’s day is spent with family, friends, gal pals, or a loved one, let’s get a little dressed up and enjoy some time with those we care about! I have some pretty fun “play dates” that I think you all will enjoy!

This little cocktail dress is super girly, probably why I love it! You will see that the only accessories that I felt the need to pair it with are some statement earrings and a bold red lip. The dress has so much detailing on it that I didn’t want to overpower the dress with added jewelry.

These shoes are a knock-off of the popular Steve Madden Stecy shoes but at a quarter of the cost. When I saw them at Target I immediately bought them in every color because that’s what any sane person would do right?! Don’t worry they only came in nude and black. Thank the lord there weren’t more colors than that because I probably would have bought those too! I like to give you guys options since I know everyone likes something a little different. I have found some more red lace dress options here, here, here and here.

Date Ideas:

Wine Night- Inspired by my most recent idea to start a wine club, get a couple of girlfriends together or your significant other and each bring a bottle of wine. The more wine the better for this one. My roommate has taught me this game that we find to be so much fun, especially for all you winos. Try to guess the ingredients of the wine! We usually have one person that doesn’t participate and gives clues. For example: 2 berries, 1 “earthy” ingredient, and 1 spice. It makes for some funny answers for sure. Get a cheese and meat platter selection from your local grocery store and enjoy some good conversation, play a game (mexican train is always my favorite!), or watch a movie and relax.
Pizza Bar- Now if I didn’t actually have to really think about 5 good date ideas all of them would be something like this one: donut bar, pasta bar, chocolate bar….you get the picture. Go to the store and get all of the ingredients you would need to make a pizza. Set everything up at home in an assembly line format and start making away! You can find some yummy and simple pizza recipes on Pinterest if you are wanting to get adventurous! And you know what goes great with pizza right? Wine.
Netflix and Chill- Now I’m not sure what your version of Netflix and chill is, but mine is basically a pajama party. Go get a couple of Netflix movies, your favorite snack, put on your fuzzy socks and pile on the blankets. For an added bonus you can take all of the couch cushions off and make a pallet on the floor with pillows and blankets like you are a little kid again! It. is. AWESOME.
Painting with a Twist- If you have never been to one of these types of places they really are a blast and they are BYOB (or BYOW in my case) so that’s an added plus. Essentially it is an art class where they have a teacher that is walking you step by step how to paint a certain picture. Believe me you do not have to be an artist. They will make you feel like Picasso by the time you are done with it.
Local Dessert Bar- Go to a local place that serves desserts. In Houston, my new personal favorite is Cacao & Cardamom. They have gourmet chocolates that are a work of art. Have fun sampling a few of your favorite desserts. Calories don’t count on Valentines Day!

Pink Peplum & How to Use Like To Know It

Ok we continue on with our week of Valentine’s Day outfit inspiration! Don’t forget to read all the way to the bottom of the post because I have a little “how to” on Like To Know It. Don’t know what that is? Well its your new best friend so see below! As some of you may know, I have a full time job as a supply analyst. Because of this, I am in business casual attire Monday through Friday so having a look that I can transition from the office to after work functions is important to me. And it’s not always easy to pull off either. I battle with wanting to be comfortable yet professional at work and then fashionable yet not too done up after work. Can you see how that might get a little difficult trying to please all of those requirements in a single outfit?!

This peplum trend is definitely one of my favorites. It is so flattering! Any top that lets my stomach expand (because let’s be honest you are bound to have a food baby some days after lunch) without actually showing it is a good top in my book! Plus when a top can be bold on it’s own, it doesn’t require you to pile on accessories. I usually tend to wear minimal jewelry as it is so I try to to spice up my outfit where I can!

Pink and cheetah… could it get more girly? They really do pair so nicely together!

As girly as I am, I can honestly say that pink is not a very common color in my closet. This pink peplum is flirty and bold- 2 qualities your outfit should be for Valentine’s Day! I’m proving that you don’t have to get done up in a dress to look sexy. Hot pink and cheetah does the trick as well! How to Use Like to Know It

What is it?– A shopping tool for instagram. It allows you to like any photo that has a #liketkit hashtag and you will instantly receive an email with direct links to where the items were purchased from so you can shop straight from your phone!

How to use it– Sign up here. It will ask you to sign in to your instagram and enter your email. This email is where you will get all of the shoppable links so make sure it’s one that you regularly use! Now when you are using instagram and come across somebody that uses Like to Know It you simply like the photo. You can easily tell who uses Like To Know It because they will have a #liketkit and a link at the end of their post. You will receive an email within 5 minutes with the instagram photo that you liked and the direct links to where you can purchase that same or similar item. It’s THAT easy!

Benefits– You will never have to ask “Where did you get that?” again. You can shop directly from your phone. Most times I, or anybody else that uses Like To Know It, will let you know the price before you shop it. It is convenient and hassle free. This is perfect for those that don’t want to spend time searching for a particular product.

Black is the new Red

I wanted to bring you guys a different spin on the usual red or pink outfit post for this Valentine’s Day inspired look. Red is undoubtedly a color of love, romance, and passion. Black on the other hand is more mysterious, powerful, and sexy. You’ve probably heard that every woman should own a little black dress (also known as an “LBD”) and you know why? Because black is timeless and has the power to make a statement without needing bold colors or accessories. The right black look has the ability to show off your body without having to show any skin at all, its magical that way! So if you are over the cliche red dress this year, try breaking out some black and gold pieces from your closet. I chose to add in some pops of red for the occasion to be more festive but the great thing about black and gold is that they go with any color! So choose whatever your favorite color is and rock that.

Girlboss Red Suit

Since this week is full of Valentine’s Day inspiration and outfit ideas, it only seemed fitting to show off the most beloved suit I’ve ever owned. Yes, I only own 3 suits but that is besides the point. I bought this red suit on a complete whim because I saw it and immediately fell in love with it’s pink trim and bold features. It screamed #girlboss and I couldn’t say no! I firmly believe that every girl deserves to have at least one outfit that makes her feel like a down right boss. An outfit that simply exudes confidence, power and beauty. This red suit stands out and is definitely against the norm, every reason why I loved it.

So all of that is to say that I have waited an entire year to wear this suit and I am so glad that I get to finally show it off to you guys! When I bought it I had absolutely no idea where I would ever get an opportunity to wear it. Valentines Day I thought? Maybe Christmas? “You shouldn’t buy an outfit to just wear one day a year” I thought to myself. Then my mother chimed in “It’s 65% off.. you have to get it”. And just like that I was SOLD. Gotta love mom’s sound of reason…

The great part about buying a suit is that you don’t have to wear the suit jacket and skirt (or pants) together. So while buying a suit is normally quite the investment, you really do get a lot of use out of each piece. I wear this pencil skirt with more casual tops to work all of the time! The blazer makes for a cute pop of color to other outfits as well. So I may have bought this suit on a whim but I can assure you that it has had it’s fair wearing!
