After posting my off the shoulder post earlier this week, I received so many compliments and comments from y’all that you are loving this off the shoulder trend. I don’t blame ya cause I’m right there with ya! It is no April fools joke that I bought 3 of these yesterday. This bare shoulder trend is here to stay all summer long so why not stock up now? Let’s be honest: everyone knows Fridays are for online shopping anyways. I’ve included options for all budgets. Happy shopping!

Off the Shoulders

Have you noticed these off the shoulder tops are having a moment? What do I mean by that? This off the shoulder trend has blown up recently and I am definitely a fan! Last year it was all about showing off your midriff with the popular crop tops and this year it’s all about the shoulders. I would put money on it that this trend is here to stay all summer long. I’ve already added several of these tops and dresses to my wardrobe for the upcoming warmer weather. I have seen this trend worn a million different ways and you can honestly dress them up however you would like. Since this peasant, off the shoulder top is flowy I decided to pair it with a more form fitting bottom, specifically some distressed denim jeans.

Top ($17) | Jeans | Shoes ($16) | Purse ($25) | Necklace (similar) | Sunglasses ($9)

I wore this simple, chic outfit to a blogger event last week and received so many compliments on this top. I can’t get over that it is only $17! The best part about a trendy piece like this is that you can pair it with jeans or something super casual and let the top do all of the talking. The mid sleeve ties are just enough to balance a tailored look. This outfit looks chic and put together when all I really did was put on some jeans and spruce it up with a pair of cute heels (which are only $16 and such a steal!). Isn’t it amazing what a good pair of shoes can do?

What do you guys think about this trend? Are you loving it as much as I am?

Easy Mini Cake Donut Recipe

I think I’ve posted entirely too many donuts on my Instagram to deny that I have an obsession, although I blame my sister because her donut obsession runs a lot deeper than mine. I can’t complain too much because finding new donut places around town and now learning to make them on our own has been so much fun! Over the weekend we ditched doing the traditional Easter egg dying and went with a yummier treat, mini donuts. While these pictures make the donuts look normal sized, in reality they are a little bit bigger than an Oreo. This is the perfect size because you will probably eat a dozen in one sitting. What makes these even better, is that they are baked, not fried so you feel a little less guilty indulging! If you weren’t already hooked just look at how amazing these turned out 🙂

In order to make these you will need to buy a mini donut maker. We have the VonChef Mini Donut Maker but any similar one will do. I personally like this one best because it makes 12 mini donuts at one time instead of 6, which is the common number that you will find when looking for similar ones. Now all that you will need to make the donuts is your favorite boxed cake mix. For this recipe we used Betty Crocker StrawberryRed Velvet and Funfetti. I do want to point out that since these are made from cake mix, they will have the taste and consistency of a cup cake. One box of cake mix makes about 36 mini donuts.

What you will need:

  • Boxed Caked Mix (choose your favorite)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup of Vegetable Oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • Medium size Ziploc freezer bag
  • Scissors
  • A pair of tongs
  • 1 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
    • You will need to repeat the last 3 bullet points for each different color of glaze that you want to make.
  • Food coloring
  • Any toppings that you want
    • Suggestions: Coconut, chocolate sauce, sprinkles, pecans, fruit, candy, etc,

Directions:

  • Plug in your donut maker and let it heat up while you are making your mix.
  • Mix together in a bowl your cake mix, egg, vegetable oil and water until there are no clumps.
  • Pour the mix into your Ziploc bag and seal. Cut a small hole in the bottom corner. You will use this to “pipe” the batter into the donut maker.
  • Open up your donut maker and slowly squeeze the mixture into each donut formation. It will probably be a bit of trial and error in order to see how much you need to put in each one.
  • Once you have filled all of your donut formations, close the lid and let them bake for 3-5 minutes. Ours seemed to only need 3 minutes but I suggest checking them at 3 minutes and seeing if they need a bit longer or not. The outside should be slightly brown before you take them out.
  • Go ahead and make all of the donuts that you plan on making. While the donuts are cooling, we will make our icing.
  • Mix together your powdered sugar, melted butter and milk. Remember you will need to multiply the ingredients by however many different colors you plan to make. You can add in more powdered sugar if the consistency is too thin. You want the consistency to be pretty thick so that it does not run right off of the donuts. This is now when you can add in your food coloring. You will only need 1-2 drops depending on how dark you want your colors. I suggest starting with one.
  • Dip your donuts in to the glaze with the entire top side facing down. Give it a couple seconds and then lift out of the glaze. Again this will probably be a trial and error process and depending on your icing consistency you might need to dip the donuts twice.
  • If you are going to add toppings to the donuts you need to do it as soon as you get done icing them as they will dry pretty fast.
  • Once you are completely done let try for at least an hour to let them completely dry before stacking them.

Disclaimer: Once you make these you will be hooked! They are so much fun to make as the possibilities on flavors and icing techniques are endless! I can promise you that if you take these to an event, you are going to get asked to bring them again or at the very least you will be asked for the recipe, so make sure you Pin this one now!

Fit Friday Favorites

So most of y’all probably saw the title of this post and thought LIAR! You know me too well. Let’s be honest, there is almost nothing “fit” about me. I like my Chick-fil-a Mondays, my daily glass (or 2) of red wine, and I can’t live without my crepes. I do not work out on a regular basis and the word “diet” is a foreign word to me. I’ve been blessed with some good genes and live without having to watch what I eat for the most part. BUT that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy wearing athletic clothes like the next person. I am a firm believer that leggings are in fact pants and are an essential piece of clothing on a daily basis. As soon as I hit the door from work, I throw on my comfiest leggings and an oversized shirt (thanks sorority days for the 100 t-shirts). If you catch me out and about on the weekends there is also a 99% chance you will find me in athletic wear and I chuckle every time some asks me if I just came from the gym. [Insert awkward laugh here]

Hope you all are enjoying this Good Friday! I slept in, made a big gourmet breakfast (well I supervised), and am about to head to my parents house for the weekend as soon as I am done writing this post! The whole family will be in town this weekend and I can’t wait for some good food, time spent huddled around puzzles, and thanking Jesus that I can do all of this because of him. HE IS RISEN! God bless each and every one of you and may you have a blessed Easter weekend in the comfiest clothes that you own 🙂

Spring Flowy Dress

Spring has officially kicked off and I could not be happier to pull out all of my warm weather clothes! Anyone else with me? My closet always seems a little less cheerful during the winter. Winter is known for darker colors and heavier materials. As soon as Spring hits, I push all of those dark Winter clothes aside and bring out the bright colors, florals, and lighter weight clothes. I would take the heat over the cold ANY day. Probably for the best because I don’t foresee moving away from Texas any time soon and we pretty much live in the heat down here!

Dress | Shoes | Earrings (similar) | Ring | Sunglasses

This past weekend I attended the Houston Symphony for the first time. One bucket list item checked off and 1000 more to go. While the symphony was amazing, I think my favorite part about the entire night was that I got to get dressed up. That never happens anymore it seems like so any chance that I can wear a nice dress and I am in!

This dress. Let me start off by saying I think that it has earned the spot as my favorite in my closet. The detailing on it is amazing! From the bright colors to the fun length to the beaded collar, this dress makes a statement and I felt like a celebrity wearing it. I like to think that it says business in the front, party in the back. But mostly just party all around 😉

I am so mad that when I bought this dress and shoes a couple of weeks ago that they were available online, but since then they are sold out everywhere. I have linked a similar dress option for you guys but unfortunately it is a little pricey. What do you guys think of this “high-low” trend? I personally am loving it! I have also linked several gorgeous pink shoe options for Spring below.
