For those of us riding the single train this Valentine’s Day, I think I speak for all of us when I say that it’s not a holiday we care to give too much recognition to. Being single on the day of love is like a huge freaking reminder that everyone else (or so it seems) is happily in a relationship, engaged, or married. As if your grandmother dropping not so subtle hints about your relationship status wasn’t enough, stomaching all of the mushy-gushy romance on this day can be rough to say the least.

This will be my first Valentine’s Day alone in close to 8 years and I’m not sure how I feel about it. On one hand I am pretty excited that I am not having to buy a Valentine’s Day gift for anyone besides myself. And you can bet that I WILL be buying myself something because I have somehow convinced myself that that is how the world should work. My logic goes a little something like this: if I were in a relationship, I would be spending a hefty amount of mula on the one I love. Since I would have spent the money anyway, I might as well spend it on someone that I love just as much… MUAH! So thank you nonexistent boyfriend for that!

So to all of my single ladies out there, instead of spending February 14th feeling sorry for ourselves and our lack of romance, I say we celebrate this special time in our lives! On a day that makes us question “Why am I still single?”, “What’s wrong with me?”, “Will I die alone?”, I’m here to tell you that you are exactly where you are supposed to be and you should celebrate the fact that some day you will look back on this time alone and wish you would have lived it up a little more. So here are a few ways stay happy this love day and to be your own damn Valentine.

  1. Stay off of social media– As if most days besides Valentine’s Day weren’t big enough reminders of just how single you are, social media will surely do the trick. You already know that everyone and their mother will be showing off on social media of just how great their significant other is. Do yourself a huge favor and just stay off of your phone for the day. Nobody wants to see the thousands of Instagrams showing off expensive gifts, romantic gestures, and cliche acts of love (as cute as they might be).
  2. Don’t “play hermit”– It might be easy to burry yourself into a hole of self pity complete with Netflix while you drown your tears into a tub of ice cream but don’t succumb to this ladies! The world is not completely out to get you on this day so embrace being single and know you are not alone!
  3. Splurge on something for yourself– Take the money you would have spent on a Valentine”s Day present for your ex and buy yourself something really nice. Maybe it’s a couple boxes of chocolate (you do you girl) or maybe it’s a new bag. Just do it!
  4. Buy yourself flowers– I’m a big proponent that you should always buy yourself flowers. They don’t have to be a romantic gesture from a guy. For something that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg but brings instant happiness, seems like a no brainer to buy them for yourself!
  5. Pamper yourself– Ain’t nobody going to love you better than you can love yourself! Just like you would have spoiled that special Valentine, you deserve a little loving too! My personal favorite pampering sesh goes a little something like this: a bubble bath, face mask, candles and BIG glass of wine. Don’t mind if I do!

Cheers to all of the single ladies out there this Valentine’s Day and may you be your own best damn Valentine out there.

With it being the month of love, I wanted to share a festive work wear look. It’s no secret that I am a fan of color in the office. Pretty much all year round. Colorblocking is such an easy and chic look to recreate in and out of the office.

Office clothing comes in a lot of solid colors so the majority of the work is already done for you. The key to colorblocking is to wear multiple solid colors. This usually works best for similar colors but contrasting colors can also work if done correctly. Neutrals are a safe way to start out but once you think you’ve achieved the color block look, rocking bold colors makes it that much more fun!

This Valentine’s Day whether you are single, taken or in a “complicated relationship”, my girlfriends and I have got you covered on what you can wear, no matter the occasion. These looks will take you from a fun night out with your girls to a date night with your guy.

My best piece of advice when searching for something to wear is to not feel like you have to stick to just red or pink. Also remember that even if you opt to not wear the traditional colors, that you can always accessorize with those colors instead!

In preparation of Valentine’s Day coming up, I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the biggest love day than with all of my girl’s and the one thing I love the most – WINE! Boys come and go but your girlfriends and wine just seem to get better with time 🙂 Cheesy? Hey, at least it pairs well with the wine right!

Sonoma Wine Bar & Restaurant opened their doors for us to enjoy a night on their rooftop patio complete with rosé and light bites (if you consider sliders and several bowls of fries light). Of course the fries were the first thing we finished off if I remember correctly. Other favorites included zucchini chips with with lemon yogurt sauce (YUM!), fried cheese curds with tomato curry sauce, deviled eggs, mushroom pizza, cheeseburger sliders, sesame crusted ahi tuna with soy glaze, and the poutine (my personal fav). Clearly our motto for ladies night was “leave no food behind”.

Whether you are single, tied down or just want a night for the girls, Galentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to get the girls together and have a good time. In case it wasn’t already obvious what Galentine’s day means, it is simply celebrating Valentine’s Day or activities with your gals. If you are needing some ideas of fun things to do with your gals, I’ve listed my plans as well as a few others below.

Wine Night: You can never go wrong here. Whether you all hit up a local favorite like Sonoma, or decide to keep the party at home, wine, cheese, and girlfriends are the perfect match.

Chick Flick: My roomies and I have already decided that we will be seeing 50 Shades Darker. There are always chick flicks that come out right in time for Valentine’s Day so grab the girls and see a movie that you know you couldn’t drag your men to.

Pinterest Craft: You know all of those artsy crafts that you pin but never actually have the time for? Pick one out together and have everyone make the same craft. I hear wine enhances artistic abilities 😉

Slumber Party: O to be young again! Adult sleepovers are probably the most under rated thing of the century. All of my friends know that I am a huge proponent of these. Invite the girls over, make a pallet to watch movies, and bust out the wine and chocolate!

Spa Day: Can’t get away for an entire night? Plan a spa day complete with manis, pedis, massages and girl talk! All girls know it’s way more fun to do these things when you are not alone!

The common theme with all of these things? Wine and your best gals 😉

*Thank you Sonoma Bar & Restaurant for making this post possible.*
