I am so excited to announce that I will be starting up a new series on the blog called Work Wear Wednesday! A few times throughout the month I want to bring you ladies a few styles that are work appropriate as well as any advice that I can provide for all of my girl bosses out there! I have a full time job as a supply analyst in the energy industry and then blog with whatever hours are left in the day. Since a large part of starting this blog had to do with my first year of navigating my way in the working world while also seeming to “find” my own sense of work style, I thought that it was only appropriate to start sharing that part of my life with you! I would by no means call myself an expert on this stuff and you won’t find me going on any feminist rants, but I do aspire to inspire ladies in the workforce to always put your best (dressed) foot forward. I am a firm believer that when you put effort into your appearance, you are more motivated to also put effort into your daily responsibilities. One of my favorite quotes (as girly as it is) is “No mater how you feel, get up, dress up, show up, and never give up.”

Work Wear Wednesdays (WWW) are designed for anyone that has a reason that they need to wear something that is a bit more “professional”. The way we dress makes a statement and first impressions are everything. So whether it’s an interview, a business meeting, or just some other reason that you want to send a message that “I mean business”, my hope is that you leave here feeling inspired to put just as much effort into your work attire that you would into any other outfit!

I wanted to start off this series with a few things that I would consider a “must have” when it comes to attire that I am apt to throw on in the morning. Let’s be real, us girl bosses need our beauty sleep, we definitely don’t want to wake up any earlier than we have to and most certainly don’t want to spend longer “primping” than absolutely necessary. Hang tight. I’ve got you covered. 1) Dresses are by far the easiest piece of clothing to throw on in the mornings. This Splash of Sass dress covered my top 2 requirements: comfy and chic. 2) If you do not already own a few neutral colored pumps, it’s time to invest. At the very least you need a pair of sensible brown, black and white heels. They go with EVERYTHING. 3) Minimal accessories are best for work. This is mostly a personal preference for me since I am on the computer all day so I personally think that they get in the way. Let your outfit make a statement so that you don’t have to worry about the accessories. Less work for you!

I’ve linked a few save vs. splurge options above and below for all price points. Stay tuned each week for my work style inspiration and how I seem to manage two jobs. I will do my best to share my best kept secrets and feel free to let me know what else you would like to hear about. I would love to cover any topics that you are interested in!

For all of my Houston area ladies, make sure you check out A Splash of Sass out in Cypress,TX. Like I said, my adorable dress is from here and although their website shop page is currently in the works, you can call them (832-559-8789) to order my dress and they will ship nation wide. They also have the best selection of trendy clothes, accessories and gifts that any girl would love, not to mention the owners are a hoot so make sure you check them out!

How is it possible to feel even more exhausted after the weekend? Something is definitely not right about this! I blame it on trying to get too many things done, yet somehow feeling like I didn’t get anything accomplished. I was able to get a few things hung up around the house so that has got to count for something, right?! There is no time to slow down either since I am gearing up for almost 2 straight weeks out of town. Get details first by following along with me on Snapchat (@shelbiadams). Hint hint- I will be going somewhere that wine isn’t just served on Wednesdays and then off on another adventure to dip my toes in the sea.

Let me just start off saying that a girl can never own too much denim. It will forever be a classic in every woman’s closet. Nowadays it is even a fashion staple to wear multiple pieces of denim at once! The best part about denim is the comfort that comes along with it. When I was deciding what to wear this weekend for The Blog Societies’ brunch and then full day of running errands, comfort was a must. This cute, little denim dress is perfect for summer. I admit I have several denim dresses in my closet, but this one is my favorite for warm weather with it being sleeveless. To top off my comfortable, denim look and make it a bit more trendy, I wore my new wedges. I snagged this pair of beauties a couple weekends ago because the price was too good to be true. I had been coveting a trendy pair that was 10X the price and being on a budget, these were the next best option for me! I wore these all day Saturday and my feet survived, even better they could have gone even longer in them! Yall- This is a very rare occasion and should not be taken lightly. These shoes are only $20 and are selling out fast, so make sure you go buy them like NOW!

If you are looking for more inspiration and a bigger selection of denim dresses, here is another post that I did on denim dresses. Here are a few snapshots from brunch this weekend with a few of my favorite Houston bloggers!

Well I’ve officially caught a cold and I’m wallowing. I rarely get sick and frankly it’s probably a good thing because I’m so pathetic when I’m sick! Since being in the working world, I’ve learned that there really isn’t time to be under the weather. Like ain’t nobody got time for that… but that’s easier said than done right? So I’m loading up on all the cold medicine I can get my hands on and saying a prayer that this blows over fast!

I get asked questions all the time about my blogging journey and specific aspects of my “double life” all the time. I want to shed some light on 3 important questions that I get asked from time to time.

  1. Do you blog full time? Nope. Maybe one day but right now I am a Supply Analyst from 8-5, Monday through Friday and then I blog pretty much every hour that I’m not at work or sleeping. So while I don’t technically blog full time, I sometimes feel like I have 2 full time jobs by the amount of hours I put in every week between the two, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
  2. How do you keep a work/life balance? I don’t. Hence the sickness. I am over-exhausting myself by trying to put my all into everything that I do, when in reality I am probably not able to give 100% in every area of my life since I have spread myself so thin. It’s definitely a work in progress. Eventually I will get to where I have a work/life balance (or so I tell myself) as soon as I can get a grip on navigating two full time jobs. If any of you have tips on this, I am all ears!
  3. Why do you get so dressed up for work? Because I am a firm believer in “if you look good, you feel good”. Also a guilty confession: getting ready in the morning is my favorite part of the day! That might sound sad to some people but I’ve loved hair, makeup and fashion since I was little. Getting put together in the morning and looking good for the day makes me feel productive and sometimes we need that extra push to get us going, plus countless studies have shown that you are more productive when you make an effort on your appearance. So if you don’t trust me, then trust science! Dressing up is good for you!

If you liked my short little Q&A then please let me know what else you would like to hear from me. I love hearing your feedback and I am always happy to answer any questions that you might have.

*Thank you Charming Charlie for sponsoring this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.*

This weekend was full of color and not just because of the amazing new Sugar & Cloth color wall that has brightened up Houston, but because there was lots going on. Well between the 2 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy that I somehow found time to watch there was lots going on, I promise. Saturday started out by celebrating my sweet friend, Dawn and her 28th birthday the best way us bloggers know how- lots of pictures, food, and more pictures of our food! Yesterday I spent the day with my sister and mama eating a delicious brunch and running errands all over Houston. To check out more of this weekend’s festivities, my Instagram and Snapchat (username: shelbiadams) are always the best source to see me in action. I’d be glad to have you follow along!

I wore this fun little jumpsuit to brunch with the girls and you probably know if you’ve been around here long enough that my constant struggle is to find something to wear that is both comfortable, yet high-fashion. It’s a daily struggle. I have found jumpsuits to be my saving grace when it comes to this struggle. They seriously are so comfortable and require very little time and effort to throw on since you are not having to pick out 2 separate pieces. This means half the time spent in your closet, right? I love how this season has jumpsuits for just about every occasion or style you can think of. Strapless, wide-legged (culottes), plunging necklines, open back, printed, high-fashion, embellished, seriously you name it. Jumpsuits can be as dressy as something to wear to prom or as casual as lounging around the house. I don’t know about you, but I want one for just about every occasion please. Jumpsuits do all the work for you, are extremely comfortable, and frankly are the easiest piece of clothing to throw on besides pajamas! I did a little digging and found some cute jumpsuits all under $100.

Besides loving this jumpsuit trend this season, chunky heels are a very close second! Goodbye “beauty is pain” and welcome your feet to pure happiness. The chunky heel is in and your feet will thank you for it! I rounded up my favorite chunky heels under $100 here.

I hope you all have a great week and let me know what you think about the jumpsuit trend! Are you loving it as much as I am? I feel like I can jump and play! Maybe that’s one of the reason’s for the name 😉
