Happy Monday friends! Today I wanted to share a funny story with you that should surely make you chuckle. And let’s be honest, I think we could all use a little laugh to start off our Monday morning.

It all started when I went to my grandparents house last weekend. I think every single girl, especially those in their mid 20s, can attest to being hackled by their grandparents on the men in their life. Yes, plural. As if there was even just one!! Without fail, some of the first words out of my Poppi’s mouth are, “You got you a boyfriend?”. To which I always reply, “No Poppi.” And then the words I have heard a million times over… “You don’t?! When I was your age I had me 2 or 3 girlfriends”.

Then come Monday morning I received an email for a collaboration for “the special man in my life” and I. Spoiler alert: there is no special man! I was tempted to immediately respond with some pointed words about how insensitive they were. I shared the email with my coworker, whose response was “You can take me!”. My coworker is a girl. We then started coming up with all of the funny responses that would in turn make this person feel quite uncomfortable. What if I told them I wanted to bring my girlfriend? What if I accused them of harassment? Obviously I am kidding but the more I thought about it the more insensitive I realized that email was because what if something had happened to someone’s “special man in their life”? Why were they assuming that I had a man in my life in the first place? What if it was a woman instead!

To polish off the week I received yet another email collaboration for a guy in my life and myself. 2 in one week guys! I looked up at God and said “Very funny, that was a good one, God”. I’ve been so incredibly busy lately that I have completely brushed off men. I keep telling myself that if it is meant to be, then it will happen. This is something I firmly believe. But at the same time, I know that I need to be more open to meeting someone. I’ve got so set in my daily routine that I haven’t allowed for situations to arise where I would actually meet someone. I go to work every day and then come home and blog. There is the occasional blog event or dinner with a friend, but that is always all girls!

So all of this is to say, I think God was saying “Shelbi, take a hint!”. I know I don’t NEED a man in my life, but I also think that working 24/7 and not allowing for something or someone else to enter into my life is not the answer either. I know that I can do it all on my own, but at the end of the day I do want someone to share it all with. So God, thanks for the reminder 🙂

I’ve teamed up today with Pippa and Pearl to share how we as women, can use fashion to be bold in the workforce. Men have it SO easy. They wear a suit or slacks and it’s a done deal. For us ladies, we have millions of options which can prove to be both a blessing and a curse. With so many options it can be overwhelming, leaving many women to resort to plain jane clothing. While there is nothing wrong with plain Jane, plain Jane doesn’t stand out. Plain Jane isn’t getting you noticed by your boss. And why do we put in the long hours not to get noticed? Now that’s not to say that your hard work and smarts aren’t getting you noticed but looking the part is just as important!

My top 4 ways to be bold at work are sure to make you stand out. And in a good way! I’ll bet that adding in a few of these tips are sure to get you more than a couple of outfit compliments from your girlfriends. Let’s be honest, we all love getting those 🙂

  1. Call on color

Color seems to be a lot of women’s biggest insecurity. It’s easy to hide behind darker colors like black and grey, especially when you don’t feel like being noticed. Color brings an outfit to life. My advice is to start small and slowly add in more and more color. An easy way to start out is by adding a pop of color with your shoes and accessories. These are my current favorite heels to add in a pop of color to any outfit.

  2. Pull out the prints

Prints are another fun way to make a statement. And the best part is that they are very easy to bring into your attire. Keep in mind that you always want a one to one ratio of prints versus solids. So if you are going to wear a solid skirt (as pictured above), wear a patterned top and vice versa. Besides my gorgeous top pictured above, I am loving this striped blouse  and this floral pencil skirt (seperately of course!).

  3. When in doubt, pump it out

A bold shoe will never go unnoticed. A lot of times people make shoe contact before eye contact. Not only do heels instantly dress up any outfit, they also do wonders for your legs and make you look taller. So ditch the boring black or nude flats and invest in a couple pairs of chic pumps that will never go out of style. My go-tos are these black, suede Sam Edelman heels and my maroon pumps.

  4. Blazers will always mean business

There is no other piece of clothing that says “I mean business” like a blazer can. Every woman needs a few blazers in her closet for days when she needs to look professional. The best part about blazers is that they do not have to be worn with a suit. Instead they can be worn individually to turn any casual outfit instantly into business attire! Add a blazer over any blouse and pair it with slacks or a pencil skirt. I could have easily added a black blazer to this look such as this one. Don’t be afraid to bring in colors or patterns into your outfit by way of your blazer. One of my favorite blazers is this one but if you are feeling really fashion forward try this one.

If you aren’t used to being noticed at work, it’s time for a change! You deserve to be noticed for the hard work and long hours that you put in. Pippa and Pearl is the perfect online shop to find some new work wear pieces at a great price. I was excited to find this cute boutique because they have such unique pieces that you won’t find at every other store. This is always good to know because that means no one else in the office will have it. It’s always awkward when you show up to work matching someone else. Cue the “who wore it better” committee. I also love that many of their clothing options are so versatile so you have the ability to wear the clothing for multiple occasions such as work, events, brunch, or even casual weekend wear.

Pippa and Pearl also has some amazing jewelry if you are looking to add in some color to your outfits. And for outside of work, they have a huge selection of hats, fascinators and gloves. I need someone to invite me to a high tea or derby event so that I have an excuse to buy all of these!

I wanted to end this post with a quote that I found. “The doors will be opened to those who are bold enough to knock.” So if you need a little push to be bold in the work place, start with how you are dressing. It might be the inspiration you’ve been looking for 🙂

*Thank you Pippa and Pearl for sponsoring this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.*

Happy Monday, friends! This time change has got me all kinds of whacked out so forgive me if this blog post makes no sense! I have a feeling that these days are about to turn into 2 a days (coffee not working out, lol).

Ok onto the job at hand… Fall florals. There are many reasons why I am loving this trend but 99% of those reasons have to do with the fact that I’m not ready to let go of Summer. Coincidence that this dress is by Endless Summer? I think not! You have probably seen this trend popping up everywhere. There is no denying that florals are making their way into next season and I love it! In fact every time I think of florals one of my favorite movies comes to mind, The Devil Wears Pradawhere Meryl Streep judgingly says, “Florals for Spring? GROUND BREAKING!”. Well y’all I’d say florals for Fall really are 🙂

While this particular dress keeps some fun Spring/Summer colors alive, I love how it’s base tone is a deep navy color. One thing that is very important if you are wanting to try this trend is that you do not bust out a bright, pastel colored, floral dress. You will want to look for deeper, richer tones such as navy, olive, black, maroon, brown, etc. Don’t worry I’ve done all of the work for you and rounded up some of my favorite Fall florals below.

To polish off your Fall floral look, pair it with some booties or over the knee boots. Don’t worry I rounded up some of those for you too! If you decide to try out this trend, I’d love to see! Tag me @itsallchictome in your photos on Instagram.

One Year Blogiversary

WOW, I can’t believe it has been an entire year! I know that’s what most people say when they’ve hit a milestone but this just doesn’t even come close. I look back to my first post, somewhat embarrassing now, but all I see is how far I have come. 125 blog posts and 12 thousand followers later and I think you can tell that this little blog that started out as a creative outlet and a way to escape adulthood actually morphed into something. But honestly, I am still shocked that people other than my mom actually want to read about what I have to say!

While I have learned LOTS along the way (there will be a blog post coming soon!), I wanted to spend today sharing some of my favorite memories from the past year that showcase what It’s All Chic To Me is all about.

Starting the blog

(find the post here)

NYFW Street Style: Pink fringe dress + sneakers

Somehow it took me almost an entire year to finally share where It’s All Chic To Me came from but nonetheless it’s an important part of this blog. Part of me wonders what life was like before I started the blog. My main hopes for starting the blog were for two reasons. 1) I needed a creative outlet and 2) I was in desperate need of friends. After college I felt like I was almost starting over in the friend department and my social life was lacking to say the least. Little did I know that all you had to do was become a blogger and your social life would never ever be dull again! I have had the privilege of meeting so many incredible people and attending the most fabulous events over the past year! I even got to host 2 of my own events. This was a highlight for sure! You can find a recap of my Topshop event here and my Beehive event here.

Meeting my girl tribe

(find the post here)

Blogger Tribe

NYFW street style, girl gang, Sex and the City, Community over competition

I could go on and on about all of the wonderful friends I have made through blogging. Like I said earlier, I was desperately craving to fill the void of being surrounded by so many college friends. Entering the next chapter of my life in Houston and into adulthood, I needed a support system. Many of the ladies I have met through blogging are now some of my closest friends and I talk to almost every single day. From Chick-fil-a lunch dates, countless photo shoots, phone calls about anything and everything, attending NYFW, wine nights, millions of events, and so much more, these ladies have proved to be more than my support system, they are some of my best friends! I won’t name all of my blogger besties, but you know who you are and I am SO thankful for you!

Attending New York Fashion Week

(find all of my posts here)

NYFW 2016, New York street style, New York Fashion Week style

New York Fashion Week recap, Leather pants + lace collared top

New York Fashion week street style: black off the shoulder top + white skirt + fringe heels

This is by far my favorite memory from my first year! All of my Carrie Bradshaw dreams came true in a matter of 4 days. I have never seen so much passion for fashion anywhere else and it was truly exhilarating getting to experience all of the fashion events and street style first hand. I was able to attend fashion shows, meet some of my fashion icons, and connect with brands and companies that I work with from afar. The icing on the cake was getting to go with 3 of my blogger besties, Margret, Britt and Dede. You can find all of my daily recaps here.

It’s another Work Wear Wednesday and I’m excited to share one of my new finds with you today! A big part of why I started this blog was to help transition into the working world, both as a way to express my style and share my experiences. Most of the time I feel like I still have no idea what I am doing and other days I surprise myself by actually getting something right! 😉 Either way, having a #girlboss outfit on really does make all of the difference!

As a girl on the go, I know just how much time shopping and putting together outfits can take. Cubicle Queen is a subscription based service specifically for work wear, from business casual to business professional. My entire outfit (blazer, top, pants and jewelry) is all from this month’s box.

I had been hesitant to try many of the subscription based monthly programs, especially clothes programs, because let’s be honest I love to shop and finding clothes to fit my petite frame is a task. Lately I have not had the time to physically go looking for new work clothes (shocker I know!) so I was pleasantly surprised that both outfits that Cubicle Queen sent me fit PERFECTLY and were super stylish. That seriously never happens guys!  Every article of clothing that they sent were brands that I love- Ann Taylor, Loft, Gap, Banana Republic– just to name a few.

I have loved Cubicle Queen’s service so much that I have partnered with them to give my readers 50% off your first box with code SHELBI50. You can sign up here to receive complete outfits or mix and match pieces to design your own work wear. I personally went with the complete outfit option because the lazier I can be in the mornings, the better! This was almost as good of an option as when mama used to pick my clothes out before school! 🙂 O to be young again!

If you have any other questions about this service please do not hesitate to ask! Also if you are looking for more work wear inspiration feel free to check out my other recent Work Wear Wednesday posts here.
