If there is one thing you can never own too much of in your closet, it is stripes. Whenever I don’t know what to wear, stripes always take the win. They are a classic pattern that will never go out of style and always have your back. I tend to always dress for the occasion, whatever that may be, so I felt like this was the perfect red, white and blue outfit!

This dress is the perfect casual necessity with enough detailing to make it stand out with very few accessories. I added a floppy sunhat, bold earrings, and some colored wedges to top off my look. The dress is typically more than I would spend on a garment, but I know that it is a classic that I will be able to wear for years to come. I’m already thinking about all of the places and ways that I can wear this dress-  Memorial Day, 4th of July, to the beach, to Sunday brunch, as a swim cover up, with sneakers, with sandals, or even with a cardigan to work. The lightweight material, big pockets, and flattering fit for my small frame are all big selling points for this adorable dress!

To shop along with me, and find great summer outfits like this one, I will be adding items to my shop page. Be sure to check back for all of my must haves including clothes, swimwear, and shoes! I try to update this regularly with all of the items that I am currently coveting or have purchased recently.

A couple of weekends ago I had the opportunity to visit Napa for the first time and boy did it not disappoint! This wino was right at home once I was finally there, but packing for a new place and and a day full of wine tasting required a little bit of thought on what to wear. Sundress or jeans? Sandals or heels? Dressy or Casual? Being a newb to packing for the wine country, I grabbed a glass of wine (for research purposes) and did a little “Napa Style” research on Pinterest. In the end I had to stick to what I knew I would be comfortable in and still look cute for pictures. It’s a win-win formula. So continuing on in true wine fashion, I have a few tips to think about when packing for the wine country.

Tip 1: Research your winery

Depending on where you are going, this will be a determining factor for your attire. Wineries offer an array of different environments. If the wine tasting that you are attending has an outdoor vineyard tour, you might want to dress on the casual side (think jeans and a cute top) and heels would not be your friend through the soft-ground vineyards. If you are going to a nicer tasting inside, you might want to dress up (think sundress or skirt)and rock a wedge or heel. If you are still unsure about what you want to wear, it never hurts to coordinate with others in your party. That way no matter how you dress, you won’t be out of place!

Tip 2: Choose your footwear wisely

Your best bet is to wear a comfortable pair of sandals or tennis shoe as these are your most comfortable options. It is most likely that you will be standing up during your tasting and you might even take a trek through an outdoor vineyard. If you know you will be inside, wedges and heels are certainly acceptable just make sure they are comfortable. You want to be able to enjoy your wine and not have to worry about the growing blister on your toe. We have got bigger fish to fry- like making it to your fourth winery of the day! This pair of wedges that I wore to multiple wineries did not hurt my feet one bit and they are under $20.

Tip 3: Skip the white

I remember my first wine tasting. But really, you are most likely going to be drinking red wine at some point and spills happen. Stick to darker colors that will not show if you miss your mouth or bump into someone. I also suggest not wearing shoes that you would mind getting wine spilled on.

Tip 4: Bring layers

Many of the wineries have outdoor spaces and patios to enjoy a glass of wine and enjoy the scenery. Some wineries might purposefully have the air inside set at a lower temperature as a precaution to keep wine from evaporating. So instead of being caught off guard, make sure to pack a light sweater.

Tip 5: Minimalist for the day

You will not want to haul around much throughout the day. This is mostly because you will be standing or walking and comfort is key. Whatever attire you decide to wear, don’t feel like you need to go all out on accessories. I stuck to my one statement, cork bracelet and was glad I did. Bring a small clutch, like my adorable Elaine Turner Bella cork clutch or satchel to hold your necessities. The only items that I brought to put in my purse were my credit card, ID, chapstick, sunglasses and phone.

Tip 6: Think about your beauty routine

Skip the lipstick. You will be tasting so many wines that 1) it will all come off anyways 2) it can get into your wine and inhibit the taste and 3) it will just leave an icky residue on every glass that you use, making the wine guide roll his eyes at you. Next up let’s talk about your hair. It was super humid when I went and so hats were my best friend. It will be a long day so style your hair appropriately and keep pictures in mind!

I hope this helps you get a little inspiration when picking out outfits for your next wine tasting. Whatever you decide to wear, Elaine Turner has you covered in the accessories department. Their Spring cork line is the perfect accessory to compliment your wine attire. If you will be heading to Napa, California and have questions on where to stay, what wineries are best, or where to eat, I have you covered in this blog post. Otherwise I wish you and your wine tolerance all the best! Cheers, friends 🙂

The Right Romper For You

Romper | Shoes | Purse | Sunglasses (similar) | Bracelet | X Ring | Earrings (similar)

I’m gonna start off by saying that whoever came up with the saying “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend” obviously had not discovered rompers yet. I consider rompers the baby sister to jumpsuits. Jumpsuits made a big appearance this year, primarily for the cooler weather and now that the warm weather is here, it’s time for the rompers to make their debut! Jumpsuits and rompers are essentially an adult onesie. Whoever said “if babies can pull them off why don’t we design a more stylish version and market this to adults” was a genius and I would personally shake their hand if I had the chance to meet them!

If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon, I can assure you, you are missing out. They are so comfortable, functional, and are the next best thing to pajamas. The best part about this trend is that there are rompers for all occasions and personality types. Depending on the shoes and cut, rompers can be worn to music festivals, getting dressed up, to the beach, or just a casual weekend spent relaxing. If you aren’t sold yet, I’ve rounded up all of my favorite rompers for you that won’t break the bank below. Wanting more inspiration? Here is another post that I did for a summer inspired jumpsuit.

The Romper break down:

  • The trend setter– This isn’t your run of the mill romper. These types of rompers take seeking out and probably paying a bit more for. Anything with cut outs, plunging necklines, a tie-front, scallops, or embroidery would fit into this category. Nordstrom and Revolve are my go-tos for the most trendy attire. Pair this one with gladiator sandals and a summer hat and you will be set! This is my favorite.
  • The “almost pajamas”– Everybody needs one of these to throw on on the weekends to run to the grocery or lounge around in. This is a lot more socially acceptable to wear to Walmart than your spongebob pajamas and much cuter too.
  • Barely there– These are the super short, skinny-strapped, open back, or off-the-shoulder rompers. Wear these to the beach or in the heat of the summer. They are also great for cover ups! To dress them up a bit you can also pair with gladiator sandals and a summer hat.
  • Pish Posh- Things here get a bit fancier. Think sequins, lace, or a nicer material. This type of romper is for events such as ladies night, dinner, an evening out, or a party. Dress up this romper a bit more with heels and some gold jewelry.
  • Bold prints– Florals are huge right now especially with all of the festival wear in full force. Other bold patterns include stripes and tribal prints. Pair these with round sunglasses, a fringe cross-body purse, thin jewelry and you are ready for Coachella! If I go next year, I will be bringing this one along with me.

If you find a romper or jumpsuit that you love, don’t forget to tag me (@itsallchictome) so that I can see how you styled it! Believe it or not, I definitely get inspiration from you guys too!

On a side note I will be romping my way all the way to Florida today for a long overdue family vacation! If you would like to see our adorable little place and my family’s funny jokes make sure you are following me on Snapchat (shelbiadams).

Another week down and one step closer to Summer! The only thing better than a dress in the heat of the Summer is a comfortable and breathable dress. I know I have already said this many times but it really is the reason why you keep seeing me in dress after dress on the blog. They are so easy to throw on and the more comfortable and “room for activities”, the better!

When picking out a dress, or any piece of clothing this Spring, you want to be able to get the most wear out of it as possible. In order to do that you want to make sure that you can wear it through multiple seasons or to multiple occasions. An added plus to make sure you get the most wear out of it is comfortability. When picking a dress for comfort, my must haves are breathable material, an acceptable length, and nothing too tight.

I found this dress recently and couldn’t pass it up. The criss-cross back was the first selling point for me, but I have to say that the flowy material of the dress did me in. Any dress that can hide a food baby and doesn’t stick to you in the heat of the Summer is definitely going to be on repeat!

If you were following along with me last week I was on the West Coast and this week I am headed to the East but I won’t tell you where just yet 🙂 Follow along with me on Snapchat (username: shelbiadams) to get the inside scoop first on where I will be going. Have a great week friends!

The Perfect Party Dress

Fringe is back in a big way this year and I have jumped on the bandwagon! I am still slowly introducing this trend into my closet because believe it or not I am a simple girl when it comes to fashion. I am somewhat of a minimalist so anything that is even a tad bit new makes me really think “ok, where exactly am I going to wear this?” or “how much wear will I actually get out of it?”. I think these are probably two questions most of us ladies ask ourselves when making clothing purchases. We want to know that we are not making a frivolous purchase that we are only going to wear one time and then throw in mom’s next garage sale. Well I am about to tell you all of the reasons why you need to throw those questions out the door and stock up on at least one good party dress because you never know when one of these nights might pop up.

  1. Ladies night- That’s right you don’t need a man to get dressed up and have a good time with your best gals. The more fun your outfit, the more fun the night in my book. Some of my favorite nights are those spent getting ready with all of my girlfriends and going out for a night on the town! Add some dancing and bad karaoke and it will feel just like college again 🙂
  2. Date night- We don’t get the excuse to get dressed up near enough, so take advantage that your guy wants to take you out to get fancied up! Wear heels and a bold red lip just because you can!
  3. Vacation- I don’t know about you guys but vacation seems to be when I get about 99% of my yearly photos because if you didn’t take a picture did it actually happen? I’m sure I speak for all of us that if pictures are being taken, I might as well put a little effort into my appearance! Since you will most likely be eating dinner out or have events that you will want to attend, vacation is the perfect time to whip out that little party dress that you’ve had nowhere else to wear! This little fringe number was perfect for my last trip to Costa Rica.
  4. Themed Party- To be honest when I bought this dress, it reminded me of a flapper girl! I told myself at the very least I could wear it to “Roarings 20s” party. As if I even attend themed parties on a normal basis that aren’t named Halloween. This is what I stoop to to convince myself I need a piece of clothing!! BUT there is always a chance guys. So if you see something that you could wear for multiple reasons (including the off the chance you get invited to a themed party) that’s bonus points in my book.
  5. Bachelorette party- I’m at that age right now that seriously all of my friends are getting married and bachelorette parties are the time to pull out all of your party attire. Go big or go home! I love excuses like this one to go all out and not have to worry if you are too overdressed. This fringe dress would be perfect for the bride to be.

There is nothing more frustrating than having an event pop up and having nothing to wear. Take my advice and have a back up plan. I promise you will thank me later. Here are some other party dresses that I’ve had my eye on lately.
