If you have been following along with me on Instagram or Snapchat (username: shelbiadams), then you know that I got back today from Costa Rica. I will do a full recap of my trip on Wednesday, but until then I just wanted to let you all know that I had an amazing time, the weather was absolutely perfect, the food was exceptional, and the sunburn is in full effect. OUCH is an understatement. As sad as I am for my little vacation to come to an end, I am excited to get back to work and back into my normal routine!

Today’s post is all about this color block dress from Charming Charlie that is perfect for all of my working gals. When it comes to work clothes, I am a major fan of a comfortable, professional dress. Dresses require the least amount of thought in the morning since they are quick to throw on. Anyone else not a morning person? Dresses have been my saving grace on more mornings than not when I am not in the mood to spend a lot of time getting ready.  The best part about a dress with as much character as this one is that it needs minimal accessories. When picking out a functional work dress, my best advice is to choose one that is the perfect mix of simple and charismatic. I have found my favorites to be a simple pattern, a mix of colors, intricate detailing (like scalloped trim), or an unconventional fit (like an A-line, fit and flare, or pencil skirt).

Now when it comes to accessories, this is where you get to play. If my outfit does not have much color to it, you can bet the accessories will bring the outfit to life. Mint and leopard were the perfect touch to take this work dress from cute to totally chic. If you do not already own a leopard heel, they seriously are my go-to heel to take a simple outfit to the next level and here are a few of my other favorites- here and here.

Happy Monday friends! I am a tad bit excited because it’s a 3 day work week for me and then I am off to Costa Rica! This look is definitely beach inspired and has me ready to dip my toes in the ocean and feel the sun on my skin!

I think this is now the 4th post in under a month showcasing my love for this off the shoulder trend. I actually bought my dress almost 3 years ago before this whole off the shoulder craze came about. That makes me like a hipster right? 🙂 It’s crazy to me how things go in and out of style so quickly. That’s my justification for not getting rid of anything. For those of you that have seen my closet and wonder how I have so many clothes, its because I still have clothes from high school and probably some even older than that. I have a problem and one of these days I will do a massive purge that’s been years in the making, but today is not that day and tomorrow and the weeks after that aren’t looking too good either. But you really never know what trends are going to come full circle!

One thing that really does not change too much over time are sandals. Over the years I have mastered learning which sandals to buy and which to pass on. My advice to you is to purchase one pair of sandals in each color (brown, black, and white) and then stop looking. Find the cutest, well-made (emphasis on the well-made) pair you can find and buy ’em! I then do not let myself buy another pair of the same color sandal until I have worn the old ones completely out. This has helped me save money by not buying a ton of cheap sandals that I won’t actually wear and instead investing in a few quality, staple pairs. Of course if I find a pair I absolutely love (usually from my favorite store- Marshalls), I usually give in and buy them. My point is, do not over buy in the sandal department because you probably aren’t going to have time to wear that many different pairs, especially if you have a full time job! Sandals are cute and practical for the warm weather but having more than 3 pairs probably isn’t completely necessary. Below I have rounded up some of my favorite sandals all under $100 if you are needing to add a couple pairs to your closet.

I have had a major crush on one piece swim suits this year and it’s about time I shared that with you all! One pieces seem to get a bad rap because they are thought of as not as cute or sexy as a two piece but I am here to tell you that that could not be further from the truth! This year there are a ton of options with plunging necklines, cutouts, and fun designs so I think what I’m trying to say is that these one pieces sure are bringing sexy back 😉 I’m bringing along a few one pieces on my trip to Costa Rica next week and wanted to give you guys the chance to shop them as well. We are officially T-7 days out from Costa Rica and so all I have on the brain is warm weather clothes and sunny beaches. This whole Houston Spring thing is basically warm enough to be Summer so I’ve already brought out all of the cut off shorts and tank tops. Today I want to talk about 3 of my all time favorite pieces that I highly think you should invest in. And I am not necessarily talking about investing money when I say this. It could be investing your time and actually finding a bargain piece. That’s what I did with my top and shorts here! I found my top at an outlet mall a few weeks ago and fell in love with the light weight chambray and lace detailing for only $3.99. GASP right? I linked a very similar one for you guys here. I found my shorts last year at my neighborhood Marshalls and bought them in 2 colors. I scored them at the awesome price of $40 a pop. Unfortunately they are full price now but the good news is that I wore them all summer long and a year later they are still my favorite pair of shorts. Paige Denim is an amazing brand and has held up through hundreds of washes! So to me, the price is well worth it for a good-fitting, mature pair of shorts. Lastly my purse came from Nordstrom Rack and was a steal! So it is very possible that all of these items I am about to suggest to you do not have to break the bank to be “investable” items.

Now on to the 3 things you should invest in this Spring. 1) Chambray tops 2) like I said before, a good pair of denim shorts and 3) a statement bag. Lucky for you guys I rounded up all of my favorite denim chambray tops and most are under $25 (see below)! I already have several of these in my shopping cart so you know they’ve got to be good. Why should you invest in these? Well for one, chambray is an amazing fabric for the warm weather. It is similar to linen so it is breathable and does not trap the heat in. While you can find Chambray in almost every color, I must say that denim is by far my favorite look. Next up are your denim shorts. Ladies- if all you own are a bunch of cut off shorts that do not cover your booty. Please do us all a favor and buy some quality shorts that hide all of that junk in the trunk. Not only do all of us not want to see that, you will look classier and more put together with a longer pair of shorts. I promise you they are still short enough to show off your legs and still look cute to boot! My last piece of advice is honestly one that holds true for every season. Well that’s not technically true because Houston really only has 2 seasons. Fall and Summer. I allow myself to buy a new bag as soon as the temperatures start to change, so this usually means one in the Fall that I will wear through “Winter” and one at the beginning of Spring to wear through Summer. This has helped me not waste money on cheaper bags, and instead be able to put that money towards a bag that I really like and will last me a long time.

With the heat making it’s way to Houston and as we start to see more gorgeous weather, the amount of clothes that I seem to want to wear becomes less and less! Anyone else? All that I wear when it gets hot are dresses and the more comfortable the better. I am a firm believer in cotton over anything else with this Texas heat. When I found this dress last year I loved the way it made me feel! It is casual but still super flattering! I’ve worn this dress many times with converse or sandals to a casual brunch or weekend hangout but as soon as you throw a pair of heels on it looks super chic. The best part about this dress? It’s stretchy and super comfortable. Not to mention the perfect amount of juxtaposition this dress has. It is more form fitting, yet the midi length of the dress makes it acceptable to wear on multiple occasions. If you are looking for an easy outfit to throw on on the weekend, this dress is for you. The fact that you can dress it up or down is a major plus too!
