You all might remember this gorgeous jacket from a few months back. It was actually my favorite purchase from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale as I was able to score it on major sale. Since then, I’ve been trying to wait to share this post with you until the jacket went on sale again because it is a bit of a splurge, especially for such a unique piece that some might find hard to style. Well you all are in luck because one of my best friends found an identical dupe for you at a quarter of the cost!

While this jacket is definitely a statement piece, it is easier to style than you would think! My advice? Just let the jacket win. What do I mean by that? Don’t try to overpower it. Let it do all of the talking. Simply wear other pieces that do not stand out. As you can see from both of my styled looks, I wear simple, solid colored pieces and then add a pop of color and edge with the jacket.

Maybe you already own 100 cardigans, maybe you are just starting to discover their magic capabilities like me. The older I get, the more I’ve started to realize the importance of cozy attire. Even if I have a closet full of “nice” or “super cute” clothing, I always seem to reach for what is comfortable. I would venture out to say that cardigans are maybe one of the most overlooked accessories for any outfit. They are no longer boring and grandma looking. In fact, you can now find them in all shapes, colors and sizes!

My personal favorite way to wear cardigans is either with jeans or a dress as shown above. They are a great layering tool for days when the mornings are a bit cooler or if you are headed somewhere indoors where they like to freeze you out! I styled both of these outfits so that you could easily dress them up or down. I decided to go for a dressed down approach but you could easily dress these up a bit more with a pair of boots and a scarf. See below for my favorites under $100!

Not going to lie, I plan on being Waldo for the third year in a row now. I’ve somehow had all of the outfit pieces in my closet all of these years. Don’t ask me how! If you are always a little last minute like me, I bet you have one if not all four of these costumes in your closet! And if you don’t I bet your sister or friend does 😉

If you are here because you are “late to the ballgame”, I rounded up a few Halloween tops above that you can order now and have on hand for next year so even if you are caught without a costume, at least you’re festive! Happy Halloween to you and stay safe friends!

If you have been following me for any length of time you know that the jumpsuit addiction runs deep with me. If I could live in them, I would. Unfortunately I don’t think it would be socially acceptable to wear jumpsuits everyday. I wore this denim one during fashion week and felt like I just stepped off the set of “That’s So 70’s” show.

This is one of those outfits that I put together and was instantly like, I don’t know where else I could pull something off like this other than fashion week but it’s probably one of my favorites to date! Between the denim overload, platform sneakers, fun earrings and pink shades, I think I’d fit right in during the 70’s.

So sometimes you buy the outfit that makes absolutely no sense but makes you feel like your best self because we all need those types of outfits. For me, this is that outfit. After all isn’t that what fashion is all about? Expressing yourself through clothes? I personally think this one is full of personality and spunk!

I’ve reworn these sneakers multiple times with different outfits and recently threw on a sweater over the denim jumpsuit to transition it into Fall. Nobody knew it was a jumpsuit since only the pants showed but I got plenty of compliments and of course had to tell everyone “it’s a jumpsuit”, to which they just gave me side eye. LOL. One of these days I’ll learn to just say thank you instead of always coming back with “it’s on sale”, “it’s from XYZ retailer”, “you can pair it with almost anything!”. #sorrryimnotsorry

Do you have any of those outfits that you put together and you are like “HELL YES” and then think to yourself, “now where the heck am I going to wear this?!”. I’d love to hear in the comments below!

Let’s Define Business Casual

What is business casual considered?

What is business casual considered?

Hi friends! It’s been entirely too long since I’ve posted a Work Wear Wednesday look so I apologize! Since quitting my full time job, traveling the world and having major hip surgery it’s been hard to shoot looks for you but don’t worry there are lots of Fall/Winter looks and office inspiration coming to the blog soon.

A question that comes up a lot is always “what is considered business casual?”. I can guarantee that every person and company will define it a bit different. Handy dandy Google defines it as such: “relating to or denoting a style of clothing that is less formal than traditional business wear, but is still intended to give a professional and businesslike impression”. In my opinion this is still pretty darn vague. The obvious answer is that it is somewhere between business professional (think suits, button downs, the whole shebang) and casual (jeans and a tee shirt).

The great thing about business casual being that it is somewhere in the middle of the two is that you can buy pieces that could either be dressed up or dressed down. For instance, my top that I am wearing in today’s post is just a “fancy” cotton tee that I wear on the reg with jeans or leggings. It actually comes in 5 colors and is only $11 right now so if you are needing a few basic tees I would highly suggest stocking up! Then take these pants for instance. While I did dress them up with a pair of heels, they could easily be worn on the weekend with a pair of slides or even dressed up to a bit more professional with the help of a blazer.

If you are still stuck on ideas for business casual I urge to check out some of my other Work Wear Wednesday posts as almost all of them would be considered business casual. I would also encourage you to always err on the overdressed side if unsure. After all it is always better to be overdressed than underdressed. And as a last resort here are a few quick tips if you are still questioning business casual.

  1. No jeans or leggings– While I do know a few companies that allow jeans at the office, technically jeans are not considered business casual. Nope, not even if they are colored. There are so many options out there that are actually more comfortable than jeans anyway if you just search. My hands down favorite pair of work pants are these stretchy ones from Gap.
  2. Cover your shoulders– Wear a top or dress that has sleeves. Showing your shoulders in the office is considered unprofessional. That being said I almost always wear a sleeveless top but throw on a cardigan or blazer on top of it. This way you can ditch some clothing if need be when you escape the office.
  3. Length does matter– If you are questioning if it’s too short, it most definitely is. Even if you think you can get away with it, leave it for another occasion because chances are once you are sitting at your desk or in a meeting, you are going to be even more self conscious and uncomfortable than when you were debating wearing it in the first place.
  4. When in doubt, thrown on a blazer- Time after time blazers have come to every girl’s rescue. If you aren’t feeling your outfit or think it might be just a tad too casual, throw on a blazer. It will instantly bring your outfit up a few professional points. Trust me on this one 🙂

Since work wear is my most requested topic, I would love to hear topic ideas that you are specifically wanting to hear about. Feel free to leave a comment, message or email me with your suggestions.
