Last week I grabbed lunch with blogger besties, Dede and Britt, to celebrate a big milestone for Britt. I secretly love that they can meet up with me for lunch or go shopping on my lunch break. It is such a great beak from work but usually ends up making me not want to go back!

I wore this cute, black scalloped dress to work and lunch with the girls. Several people asked me if I had a “hot date” after work so I think you could say that this dress could also been worn outside of the office as well. Spoiler alert: There was no “hot date” but I am all about an outfit that I can transition from work to after 5. I LOVE the scalloped hem on this dress. As I have said before, whenever you have a more simple outfit, you can spice it up with the details. This is where the leopard heels, pink clutch and statement necklace came in to the picture! O and did I mention that this adorable dress is under $20?!

I think you guys like it when I give you options so I went in search of some more leopard heels and am starting to think I might need to add another pair to my collection. I wear mine literally all the time because they spice up any plain outfit. My favorites can be found here (under $40) and here (under $90).

Have a great week!

Blazer 3 Ways

If you’ve been around for a little bit, then you probably know that I hold a full time job and so that means I’m in my work get-up every day. It is important to me that I look chic yet professional. Before committing to this whole 9-5 business, I didn’t own a single blazer. Now I have an entire section of my closet devoted to them because I finally discovered how versatile they are! If there is one piece of clothing that I firmly believe investing in, it would be a nice suit, or at least a blazer. A lady in a suit is bound to turn heads and give off a strong first impression, not to mention they are a bold fashion statement that will never go out of style. So today I have teamed up with Citizen’s Mark to bring you guys three different ways to style one blazer. Also make sure you read all the way to the bottom to see how you can score $50 off any blazer from Citizen’s Mark.

The number one use for a blazer is in the office so that is the first look that I wanted to bring you. Since a suit is normally thought to be masculine, pair something extra feminine with it like a skirt or dress. For an added contrast, try bringing in a print into the look like this paisley skirt. The fun thing about blazers is that you don’t have to always wear a matching pant and suit jacket. I often will pair my suit jackets with a fun pencil skirt or cropped pants, as well as my suit pants with a nice top and sweater.

Like I said before, pairing a blazer with a dress gives a nice contrast and is an easy way to take your 9-5 look into an after 5 setting. I decided to wear a pair of flats but to dress this look up a little more you could throw on a pair of heels or wedges. For a more formal and fitted look, pair a structured blazer with a dress that has a rich fabric and classic cut. For a more casual look feel free to play with prints, textures and different lengths.

The easiest way to take an outfit from super casual to casual chic is to throw on a blazer. It will instantly add a more tailored and trendy appeal to your casual look. One of the first things that I think of when I see the color navy is a nautical theme so that’s what I went with here. Stripes are a basic staple in any closet and pair well with almost everything! This outfit can really be worn with any shoe type from sandals to heels and for extra style points, pair your blazer with distressed denim jeans, a graphic tee, and heels.

From now until the end of March you can enjoy $50 off any of these beautiful blazers from Citizen’s Mark by using code ITSALLCHICTOME50. I am wearing the GVA Luxe Fit in all 3 of my looks today. From the moment I received my blazer in the mail, I was thoroughly impressed with the quality and care that went into each detail. The wool collar is by far my favorite part and makes it a little different than any other blazer that I have seen. The fit is true to size and I love how slimming it is. It is also perfect for petite women like myself. I truly felt like this blazer was tailored specifically for me because it fit that well! If you have not heard of Citizen’s Mark, I highly suggest checking them out and their commitment to empowering women in the workforce by giving them the resources to look good while doing it.

Lucky Green

Happy Monday friends! With St.Patrick’s Day this week, I wanted to give you all a little holiday inspired attire. I take my holidays very seriously around here and wouldn’t want any of you getting pinched for not wearing your green on Thursday. You can bet I will have my pinchers ready for grinches that don’t participate! Also, I don’t know how all of you will be celebrating but I hope it involves festive green goodies like the green beer that I already have plans to drink!

The best thing about this outfit is that most pieces (top, purse, and all jewelry) are $25 or less! Charming Charlie has quickly become my go to for trendy, affordable pieces. I always seem to get the “most bang for my buck”. The jeans that I am wearing are by Hudson and are seriously the best jeans that I have ever owned. The price tag isn’t awesome but the quality sure it. I hate when I wear a pair of jeans and they immediately stretch out so you are required to wash them after one use simply because they are stretched out. Well I can wear these several times and they do not stretch out and still fit me so well. I have found 2 very similar pairs of Hudson jeans for a tad less here and here (distressed version).

For all of my Houston friends- Little Woodrows, Lucky’s Pub, and St. Arnold’s Brewery will all be celebrating with green beer if you are looking for a place. Also, there are multiple festivals around the city that are kid-friendly that you can check out here. If you like these Houston suggestions and want more, check out my Houston Favorites guide for fun things to do and places to eat and drink around the city.

I hope you all have a festive week and enjoy the fun holiday! I’d love to hear or see how you are celebrating 🙂

Where I learned To Thrive

As I promised, I wanted to do a full recap of my very first blog conference that I attended last weekend. Since I am still a newb to this whole blogging venture, I had so many people dumbfounded when I told them I was heading to a blog conference for the weekend. I got reactions like “Wait, bloggers have their own conventions?” or “What do you do at these things?”. I know it might seem like us bloggers just hop on any old computer and spill our guts on whatever tickles our fancy for that day but that really could be further from the truth. I used to think the same thing 6 months ago. Then once I actually embarked on this blogging venture I quickly learned that it takes a lot more behind the scenes work than you could ever imagine. I even did my research before I started this blog and nothing could have prepared me for how much work, knowledge, technical skills, creativity, and upkeep goes into a blog. So yes, it did take a full day to cram a whole lot of blogger tips and tricks into one conference and I’m sharing my biggest takeaways.

There were so many great speakers and I learned something from every single one of them. That just shows you how much there is to all of this blogging stuff! The speakers covered topics such as social media growth, blogger photography tips, working with sponsors, Google Analytics, SEO, and how to use Pinterest. My journal was torn up with notes on all of the things I should be doing yet had no idea were even a thing! Being a newb in this blogging game is overwhelming at times with there being such a steep learning curve but that’s what drives me to keep learning and improving. I have something that I have created on my own and let’s me share with the world something I otherwise wouldn’t have the chance to do. So here are my biggest takeaways from the conference.

  1. Remember why you started– Alissa Circle hit us with this thought right off the bat. It’s such an easy thing to forget when things get overwhelming and stressful but at the end of the day I love being able to have It’s All Chic To Me as a creative outlet and source of passion.
  2. Big things have small beginnings– Started from the bottom now we here? Don’t tell me you didn’t think the same thing. Well it’s true. You aren’t going to gain 100k followers overnight or suddenly become “blog famous”. It takes time, diligence and consistency. I can hear my mother’s voice now chiming in “patience is key”. Yea yea yea.
  3. Be authentic– In a world so saturated with bloggers and information being thrown at you from every form of social media, people crave honesty and someone they can connect with. Transparency is key, yet finding some sort of balance between perfect and imperfection.
  4. Saying no is ok– This one is a hard one for me. I like to think of myself as a “yes girl”. I try not to say no to many things. Why? Because YOLO, thats why. Well when it comes to blogging I’ve learned that you become a source for advertisement and that means all kinds of brands and companies are going to want to use your platform as a place to advertise their products, whether thats something you would normally support or not. It is then my job to say if I want that product or content on my blog. Saying no to new opportunities, free products, and potentially some sort of payout are hard, but in the end well worth it if it means not supporting a brand you don’t believe in and in turn saving yourself from sacrificing your authenticity.
  5. Stay humble– It’s funny how so many of my friends and peers have already jokingly told me “Don’t forget me when you make it big”. This baffles me because I know how much support all of you give me to keep writing and posting and it is that motivation alone that keeps me going on this crazy venture So don’t worry, I plan on bringing all of you with me, maybe virtually, but I promise you that WHEN I make it big, you guys will be the ones making it with me!
  6. Community over competition– I know I’m beating a dead horse here (if you’ve read any of my recent posts) but it really is true. It is amazing to me the depth of knowledge that some of these ladies are packing. I could have sat in that conference room and just absorbed every bit of information each girl spewed out. The ladies that I have had the privilege of meeting and doing life with are the ones who have helped me get to where I am. There is room in this world for all of us to thrive, so let’s get out and do it! O and check out my Thrive Tribe 🙂
