Hurricane Harvey Update

It feels wrong posting about anything fashion or otherwise “normal” blog related topics when so many of my loved ones and neighbors are losing their homes. The amount of destruction that Hurricane Harvey has already done is unfathomable and we aren’t out of the woods anytime soon. Since last Friday afternoon, Houston has been hit with over 40″ of rainfall in such a short amount of time. Even with breaks in the rain, it is not enough to let the city drain. There have been at least 12 tornados touch down and thousands of people who have already lost their homes. We need a miracle and fast.

For the past few days I have been glued to my phone waiting for friends and family to give me updates on the rising waters. Checking social media and news outlets constantly to see the damage. Every new picture that I came across more shocking than the one before. We knew this storm would be bad but seeing each and every person that I personally know go through losing their home and their belongings is absolutely heart breaking.

My sister and I do not know how our townhouse is faring in the Heights as both of us fled to higher ground on Friday. Surrounding areas are completely flooded but we are hoping for the best. I am thankful to report the rest of my Houston family (parents, aunts, uncle) have not had any water in their homes. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for SO many of my childhood friends. My parents are having to rescue people from our old neighborhood on jet skis as their homes are taking on so much water.

I made the tough decision Friday to continue on with my girls weekend reunion trip to Fredericksburg, Texas (aka Texas wine country) knowing there was a good possibility that we could get stuck here. Welp all of my wine dreams came true and we are officially stuck here for the foreseeable future as the majority of Houston including all of the major roadways are flooded under several feet of water. I am forever thankful to the sweetest AirBNB host for allowing us to stay well beyond our intended stay free of charge. As much as I wish I was in Houston able to help those in need, I am thankful for a dry place to stay until the weather and flood waters calm down and even more thankful for sweet souls that are wiling to help in any way possible.

People from all over Texas are coming together to help one another and as bad as things are getting in Houston, it is heart warming to see. There are strangers helping complete strangers through rescue boats, donations and offering up their homes for safe refuge. Houston will rebuild but we have a long road to get there. If you are wondering how you can help, there are a few ways.

  • Monetary Donations

    • American Red Cross – Text HARVEY to 90999 and you’ll have made a $10 donation, which you’ll see on your next phone bill.
    • Salvation Army – The Salvation Army has been responding to the storm to help those in need and is accepting donations specifically for Harvey victims here.
    • JJ Watt Houston Flood Relief Fund – There is already over 500k raised. Donate here.
  • Physical Donations

    • Local food banks: Affected areas include Houston Food Bank, Galveston County Food Bank, Corpus Christi Food Bank, Southeast Texas Food Bank, and more. They recommend contacting a food bank directly about their need and what you can do. Find the closest one to you here.
    • There are so many organizations that will be accepting clothing and other necessities. If you are stuck inside with nothing to do, now is the perfect time to gather up and donate old clothing, unused toiletries and canned food.

Continue to pray that the rain stops, flood waters recede, and for everyone affected. Hurricane Harvey is still very much a threat for the next few days. It might not seem like we can do much but what we can do is pray and donate to the disaster relief.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out checking on my family and I. We are so thankful for such a supportive community and are trying to help in any way that we can. If you are or your family have been affected by Hurricane Harvey, please let us know how we can help whether it is through prayers, a dry place to stay or donations.

#NSALE Wardrobe Essentials: 9 Styled Outfits

It’s been a hot minute since you heard me talk about the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and with only 5 more days to shop the sale before everything goes back to full price, I wanted to share 9 outfits made up entirely of 15 pieces from the sale. I hope you find this helpful when deciding which pieces are worth the purchase now, perhaps even if you will not wear it until later in the season. I know that I personally like to see it on someone else before pulling the trigger to purchase so that I can see what it will look like on. So without further adieu, here you go!

Jacket // runs true to size and is seriously a closet staple! I bought this last year. Since this jacket is now sold out. Here is super similar one.

Long sleeve tee // Runs very big. I am wearing an XS and it is still big enough to knot and wear off the shoulder. Such a great closet staple for layering and is only $18!

Jeans // True to size and one of the most under rated pair of jeans of the sale! I own several pairs of jeans in this brand. It is a great budget friendly jean.

Dress // Runs true to size. You can never have too many comfortable bodycon dresses, am I right?

Cardigan // Runs big. I am wearing an XS but could have done an XXS. If I had to pick just one cardigan from the sale, this would be it! It is a great thickness, has pockets and I love that it is longer in the back.

Sneakers // Run true to size. I am on a sneakers kick as of lately and these are such a steal!

Top // Runs very big. I’m wearing an XXS. This is just a fun top that comes in the prettiest shade of pink and also a grey color!

Sneakers // Run true to size. I am on a sneakers kick as of lately and these are such a steal!

Jacket // Runs true to size but I would size up if wanting to wear with sweaters. I bought an XS. Hands down my favorite purchase from the entire sale!

Camisole // Runs true to size. You might as well stock up in every color because these lace camis are all the rage this season and are great layering pieces. Since this is currently sold out, I found an similar one here.

Skirt // Runs true to size. I am wearing a 25. Comes in 2 colors and is the perfect addition to you wardrobe for fall. Can be worn with booties, boots, or heels!

Shirt // Runs true to size. This darling top is a great transitional piece and would be so cute with shorts now.

Dresses that Rock for Work & Play

Dress: Madewell | Sneakers: Johnston & Murphy | Purse: Johnston & Murphy | Sunglasses: Nordstrom

Photography by: Banavenue

Over the years working in a corporate job, I’ve accumulated a LOT of work clothes. Something that I have come to find as of recently is that I have far too many items hanging in my closet that only serve one purpose. Either they are strictly for the office or strictly for the weekend (aka there is no justifying making it office appropriate). I don’t have a happy medium of outfits that could swing both ways which is both annoying and not efficient. The solution? I’ve started buying items that can serve more than one function. I’ve found that a pretty safe bet to know if it passes the test, is if you know it can take you from work to happy hour without having to swing by the house for an outfit change.

After going on the hunt for items that could fit both of these scenarios, I had a couple of takeaways I think anyone looking for work wear should do as well. First off, you can make almost any sleeveless, strapless or even backless dress work appropriate by throwing on a cardigan or blazer (I list a few favorites here). If you do not have at least a few staple color cardigans, you are doing it wrong! I have cream and black colored cardigans in my car at all times. You know for emergencies and what not. This way depending on my outfit, I always have a sure source of coverage or an Antarctica (because what office isn’t?) protector if need be.

Secondly, shoes can totally change the occasion of any outfit and make it more wearable. My favorite way to take a dress from work to drinks is to throw on a strappy pair of heels. Want to wear the same outfit for a more casual look? Throw on a pair of sneakers. As long as you have at least one pair each of pumps, strappy heels, sneakers and maybe a pair of flats. You are set!

Don’t forget that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is still going on and there are lots of items still in stock, including lots of work wear! The sale ends August 6th!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: Wear Now & Later

The first day of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale for 2017 is here! If you are a Nordstrom cardholder, you are able to shop the sale early. If you do not have a Nordstrom card, the sale will open up to the rest of the public on July 21st, just one short week away!

I stayed up all night to find what I think to be the best deals out there so far. While the majority of the sale is geared towards Fall/Winter items, I successfully found several items that you can actually wear right now (Southerners- I got you!). I am headed into Nordstrom later this morning to try on items from the sale and share how everything fits and my honest review about each item. I will post about this on the blog over the next couple of days, but get a first look by following me on Instagram! Remember these items WILL sell out fast!

*SHOP THE BELOW COLLAGES BY CLICKING ON THE ITEM THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN*

Although most items are geared towards the cooler weather, I was still able to find a pretty large selection of swim suits, tank tops and dresses! See more of my “wear it now” picks below!

My favorite items to shop, especially during early access, are jeans, boots, designer purses, and coats! See more of my “wear it later” picks below!

I will be covering the Nordstrom Sale lots over the next 3 weeks so make sure to bookmark IACTM as Nordstrom will add new items to the sale each day! I’ve gone ahead and added a NSALE 2017 tab to the top of the blog with a drop down menu to categorize all of my favorite sale items. This is where you will find the most up to date items as I will also be updating this every day. Happy shopping friends 🙂
