My Chick-fil-a and Target runs have recently turned into Chick-fil-a and Walmart runs and boy have I been surprised at some of my recent fashion finds. While I’ve picked up my basic tees and tanks from Walmart for a long time, I’d never really ventured out further than that because honestly your girl is normally making a bee line for the Cookie Two Step Blue Bell Ice Cream. #priorities

I’ve had some requests lately to share casual work wear or outfits that would be appropriate for a classroom setting and while I haven’t set foot in a classroom setting in awhile, I would put money on the fact that teachers are all about the comfort aspect while still trying to look cute and professional. This is normally where I would give a speech on stretchy pants and dresses: two must haves for the comfy lover but I’ll refrain because I know you ladies know what I’m talking about.

As soon as Walmart announced that Maurices was launching on walmart.com, I knew they would have some great casual pieces that would be perfect for the classroom or a casual office setting.

I was pleasantly surprised by these button fly jeggings. They have the look of jeans, the stretch of jeggings and the quality of designer denim. I am wearing the same pair of denim in both the first and last outfits. The only difference is that I cuffed them in the last outfit making them look like an almost completely different jean! These jeans do run on the bigger side so I would suggest sizing down if in between sizes. I went with the XS short and would have done an XXS had they have had it.

I picked up several other pieces from the Maurices line that are not only appropriate for the office or classroom, they are just great basics to add to your closet. I can promise you that this anorak jacket will go with just about anything and everything. I’m talking over basic tees, blouses, dresses and even jumpsuits. I’ve tested this theory and I promise it works and it looks just as cute as can be. The green color option is my personal favorite but it also comes in a pretty blush pink color that is perfect for Spring and has the prettiest eyelet detail.

Next up, let’s talk shoes. Since heels can be a little too aggressive and usually not the most comfortable for someone on their feet all day, I found two pairs of wedges that are super cute, under $20 and the perfect height for the classroom. If wedges are still a little too much of a commitment for you, I found this pair of on trend white mules that I absolutely love. For sizing purposes, if you are in between sizes in any of the Time and Tru wedges, size down. I’m normally a 7.5 and went with the 7s. As for any of the Time and Tru sandals, I size up a half size!

Fall Casual Style Guide

Fall Casual Style Guide

Sweater: SSC | Jeans: Levi’s | Shoes: Johnston & Murphy | Hat: SSC

Since I did a Summer Casual Style Guide, it was only fitting that I share my new Fall casual wear refresh with you too! While I love dressing up, I am a jeans and leggings girl through and through. When the temps start to drop, my number one concern is wearing something that is going to keep me warm and cozy. Not going to lie to you ladies, up until this year I would immediately reach for an old, ratty college tee shirt and a pair of leggings that was barely hanging on.

We are much quicker to shell out money to buy trendy clothes but will wear the same ratty tee shirts, sweatshirts and leggings for years. Why is that?! In an effort to step up my casual style, I found Southern Shirt Company to be a one stop shop for all things casual wear! Since I loved their Summer collection of tee shirts, tees and shorts SO much I knew they would be my go to for Fall too. Their selection of sweaters, sweatshirts, long sleeve tees, flannels and sherpas is nothing short of cozy overload!

From the couch to weekend wear, Southern Shirt Company has covered all of my needs for cute, casual clothing. The beautiful colors and pajama like softness are what I love most about my new found casual style. If you are interested in any of these styles, use code INF-SHELBI15 for 15% off of your entire order.

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that sherpa everything is HUGE right now and for good reason because they are the coziest pieces ever. Southern Shirt has a great selection of sherpas: everything from vests, to pullovers, to jackets and in ALL colors for both men and women. If you are already looking for gifts don’t forget that cozy gifts make the best gifts 😉

Oh look, more sherpa! Can’t stop, won’t stop with this cozy material. My personal way to pair a sherpa vest, is with a plaid flannel. Southern Shirt has a great selection of both in a wide variety of colors.

This corduroy sweatshirt has pockets, I repeat this corduroy sweatshirt has pockets. It comes in 5 colors and is one of my favorite pieces that I picked up. While it says it is corduroy I would say it has the look of corduroy but isn’t overly thick like corduroy normally is. I sized up to a small so it would be long enough to wear with leggings.

I’ve loved absolutely everything that I have received from Southern Shirt. If you are looking to add a few pieces to your wardrobe that are casual, sensible and cute I highly suggest checking them out. See below for some more of my favorite Fall pieces.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and the question I get asked the most is always what is appropriate for holiday work parties. Well, it depends! Some companies go all out in which something along these lines might be more appropriate. My office always was a bit more casual when it came to holiday parties so I wanted to bring you two outfits that could work for a regular day at the office just a bit more festive 🙂

Both of these outfits would be appropriate for a work dinner party or casual party. My favorite way to “dress up” a sweater is to throw some party pants (or skirt) on with it! Easiest, most festive way to bring in some sequins, sparkle or festivity! See some more of my favorite party pants below.

And if you are looking for more options to wear with those party pants, don’t worry I’ve got you covered!

Lastly, if you are looking for gifts to give the boss lady, coworker, or employee in your life. I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite items that are a working girl’s necessity.

You know those basics that you reach for out of habit? The ones that you might have already worn 2 or 3 times this week, but they are your tried and true favorites that you wear if you can’t seem to find anything else that’s cute AND comfortable? That’s me most days. Especially since getting dressed isn’t the easiest task right now, my ultimate goal is to always be comfortable and to be honest I don’t want to put a lot of thought into what I’m going to be wearing for the day because if I do, I’ll end up with a pile of clothes on the ground that didn’t make the cut. Want to know the chances that those clothes get hung back up? Zero.

It’s always great to stock your closet with easy basics that are also great to layer when the temperatures start to drop. Let’s break it down by tops, bottoms, coats/vests, and shoes. All of which I am going to list could technically be mixed and matched and are basics that I would go out on a limb to say that you NEED in your closet and won’t regret on those days that you have “nothing to wear”.

Let’s Define Business Casual

What is business casual considered?

What is business casual considered?

Hi friends! It’s been entirely too long since I’ve posted a Work Wear Wednesday look so I apologize! Since quitting my full time job, traveling the world and having major hip surgery it’s been hard to shoot looks for you but don’t worry there are lots of Fall/Winter looks and office inspiration coming to the blog soon.

A question that comes up a lot is always “what is considered business casual?”. I can guarantee that every person and company will define it a bit different. Handy dandy Google defines it as such: “relating to or denoting a style of clothing that is less formal than traditional business wear, but is still intended to give a professional and businesslike impression”. In my opinion this is still pretty darn vague. The obvious answer is that it is somewhere between business professional (think suits, button downs, the whole shebang) and casual (jeans and a tee shirt).

The great thing about business casual being that it is somewhere in the middle of the two is that you can buy pieces that could either be dressed up or dressed down. For instance, my top that I am wearing in today’s post is just a “fancy” cotton tee that I wear on the reg with jeans or leggings. It actually comes in 5 colors and is only $11 right now so if you are needing a few basic tees I would highly suggest stocking up! Then take these pants for instance. While I did dress them up with a pair of heels, they could easily be worn on the weekend with a pair of slides or even dressed up to a bit more professional with the help of a blazer.

If you are still stuck on ideas for business casual I urge to check out some of my other Work Wear Wednesday posts as almost all of them would be considered business casual. I would also encourage you to always err on the overdressed side if unsure. After all it is always better to be overdressed than underdressed. And as a last resort here are a few quick tips if you are still questioning business casual.

  1. No jeans or leggings– While I do know a few companies that allow jeans at the office, technically jeans are not considered business casual. Nope, not even if they are colored. There are so many options out there that are actually more comfortable than jeans anyway if you just search. My hands down favorite pair of work pants are these stretchy ones from Gap.
  2. Cover your shoulders– Wear a top or dress that has sleeves. Showing your shoulders in the office is considered unprofessional. That being said I almost always wear a sleeveless top but throw on a cardigan or blazer on top of it. This way you can ditch some clothing if need be when you escape the office.
  3. Length does matter– If you are questioning if it’s too short, it most definitely is. Even if you think you can get away with it, leave it for another occasion because chances are once you are sitting at your desk or in a meeting, you are going to be even more self conscious and uncomfortable than when you were debating wearing it in the first place.
  4. When in doubt, thrown on a blazer- Time after time blazers have come to every girl’s rescue. If you aren’t feeling your outfit or think it might be just a tad too casual, throw on a blazer. It will instantly bring your outfit up a few professional points. Trust me on this one 🙂

Since work wear is my most requested topic, I would love to hear topic ideas that you are specifically wanting to hear about. Feel free to leave a comment, message or email me with your suggestions.
