Next year my parents will have been married for 30 years! My dad has been wanting to upgrade my mom’s ring for decades now but she has always politely declined as she says that her original ring holds too much sentimental value. Well after several years of persuasion, my mom finally decided that year 30 could be the year her ring got a little “level up”. My mom and I recently went to Robbins Brothers Houston store to check out their ring selection. While I am nowhere near the point in my life that would require a ring on my left finger, it’s still fun to fantasize so I never say no when mama asks me to tag along 🙂

Apparently when it comes to diamond rings, the apple does in fact fall far from the tree because our taste in rings are totally different. Mom’s original diamond ring is marquise shaped and is what she is still predominantly drawn to 30 years later. She ventured out to also try on a few cushion cut and pear shaped rings, all in the white gold family.
The ring that I am wearing above (on the right) was also one of Mom’s selections. This vintage fancy shape ring from the Poem Collection is unlike any other ring I’ve ever seen and immediately made it one of our favorites. The more unique, the better!

A new element that Mama is wanting to incorporate with this ring is sapphire. My dad has tried to buy her many sapphire rings over the years because it is her birthstone and favorite gem, but my mom has always said that she would rather spend the money elsewhere. Now that they are upgrading her ring, the thought of making it more unique with sapphires is something she really likes but also makes the ring search a little more complicated. Thankfully Robbins Brothers offers customization on almost any ring! That way if she finds a ring she loves and wants to add sapphires, she can do that no problem.
Before we left, I obviously had to try a few rings on myself, for good measure and all. Almost every ring that I picked out was in the yellow gold or rose gold family. Ever since I received my Aggie Ring (WHOOP!), I predominantly wear gold jewelry to match. I guess the same holds true for engagement rings! Unlike my mom, I was drawn to round, oval and radiant shaped rings and more of a solitaire diamond with a simplistic band. I did try on a few cushion cut rings as well which is about the only ring shape that seemed to agree on!
It’s funny how my mom and I tend to agree on almost everything these days but when it comes to diamonds I guess it’s true that every woman’s love story is different which makes every woman’s ring different too. I’m sure my taste in rings could change a hundred times over before I write my own love story, but it’s still interesting to see how my mom’s taste and I differ.
We met with both Tommy (the general manager) and Antoinette at the Robbins Brothers Houston store near the Galleria and both were such a pleasure to work with! If you are in the market for an engagement ring, wedding band, or sparkly new diamond, Mama Adams and I cannot say enough good things about Robbins Brothers and their staff that truly make the buying experience so much fun! Plus their large, quality selection had me feeling like Reese Witherspoon in the Sweet Home Alabama scene where Patrick Dempsey let’s her take her pic from the entire store selection. Future husband, if you are reading this, take note 😉
Thank you Robbins Brothers Houston for sponsoring this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
