Olay Retinol24 Review

A month ago I announced that I was on the hunt for a budget friendly, quality retinol to build into my skincare routine. I have struggled in the past with the high price tag of retinols and then on top of that I never had the best experience either. They either dried out my skin so bad, had a terrible odor, or just didn’t seem to show results. All of that being said, I was still determined to find something that worked for me and my skin. I’m nearing 30 and starting to notice facial lines that weren’t there even a year ago. Who knew you started physically showing your age at just 27 years old? Not me!

Over the past month I started trying out each of the Olay Retinol24 products consisting of a night serum, moisturizer and eye cream (all super affordable) into my night time regimen and I’m excited to review them for you! The best part about these products is that unlike other retinols, these products are blended with a retinyl propionate. Retinyl propionate are small vitamin A molecules that work their way deep into your skin in order to plump and smooth while also nourishing the skin on top of that which is why these products don’t dry out your skin like most retinols on the market do. In fact, I have seen no irritation whatsoever since using the products even when using them for consecutive nights.

Another big reason to love these products is that they work for up to 24 hours (hence the name), slowly working their way deep into your skin over the course of a day’s time. This is unlike other retinols that send an immediate, powerful dose of retinol all at once which usually leads to irritation and dryness. And probably the absolute biggest reason to really love these products is the price tag. I certainly know that it is a struggle to find a retinol that doesn’t break the bank. Well look no further because each of these products can be found at drugstore prices!

My favorite product out of the bunch is the Olay Retinol24 Night Moisturizer which comes as no surprise since I have loved several Olay Moisturizers over the years. This one has a silky smooth consistency that immediately absorbs into your skin and does not leave you feeling sticky or greasy whatsoever. The eye cream has a thicker consistency and is packed with a punch. A little goes a long way so although it is in a smaller jar, you get a lot of bang for your buck! Lastly the serum is a great way to add a retinol into your regimen if you already have a moisturizer that you love. It comes with an application dropper that makes it easy to work into your hands before applying or apply directly to your face and then pat into the skin. Take note that you should not use all of the products together. You can use the eye cream and moisturizer or the eye cream and serum but not the moisturizer and serum together.

My overall review is that these products are legit! If you have struggled in the past to find an affordable retinol option or have experienced irritation in the past, I would highly recommend every one of these products. Since I already have a few serums that I can’t live without, I plan on continuing to use the Olay Retinol24 Eye Cream and Olay Retinol24 Moisturizer as these are two areas my skin desperately needs a retinol savior. Since both the serum and moisturizer are applied to the entire face, I would choose whichever one you are lacking in your current skincare routine.

Lastly, I know it can be confusing whenever you start working new products into your skincare routine and you might be wondering how and when to apply the different products. When it comes to the order of application of nighttime skincare products, this is the order in which I apply mine: cleanser, toner, eye cream, oils, serum, and lastly moisturizer. The way you want to apply skincare products is going to be from thinnest consistency to the thickest. This way the thinner products can penetrate deep into the skin while the thicker products usually sit on top of the skin. For ex: if you put a moisturizer on before an oil, the oil will not be able to absorb into the skin since the moisturizer is blocking it from penetrating deep into your pores. After all, if you are spending the money on skincare products, might as well be applying them right 🙂

The Moisturizer Your Skin Didn’t Know It Needed

Olay Regenerist Whip Red Jars

*This post is sponsored by Olay. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.*

I have very strong memories of both my grandmother and mother using Olay products growing up, but it wasn’t until a few years ago that I too got hooked. In high school and college, I didn’t use a moisturizer because I was convinced moisturizers made my skin greasy and therefore caused breakouts. I was sorely mistaken and wish I had been whipped into *skincare* shape long ago!

I started using Olay Regenerist Whip Face Moisturizer almost three years ago now and my skin has transformed drastically. It went from being extremely oily to what most would categorize as normal skin. Did you know that not using a daily moisturizer actually makes your skin produce more oil because it is working in overdrive to try and hydrate your skin?! I had no idea.

Let me tell you about my newest best friend, the Olay Red Jar. I use this moisturizer every single day and have brought it on every single vacation the past few months. It is extremely hydrating without leaving your face oily or sticky so I can apply it in the morning without worrying that my make-up will slide off. In fact, my make-up goes on easier and smoother than it ever has when I use Olay Regenerist Whip before I apply my make-up. It functions as a primer and soaks in super fast too!

The consistency of this moisturizer is light so it is almost weightless to the touch and feel. It literally feels like your skin just consumed a tall glass of water! And just like water, my skin craves this stuff. I have accidentally forgotten to pack my red jar on a couple vacations and my skin is noticeably less hydrated. Now it is the first product I throw in my skincare bag – I won’t make that mistake again.

Another great selling factor for me is that the Olay Regenerist Whip comes in an SPF option which I normally take on vacations with me when I know I’ll be out in the sun all day. So, if you are heading on a beach vacation or just want to protect your skin at home, Olay has you covered. If you are particularly sensitive to smells like me, I also love that they make a fragrance-free option. Honestly, there is an Olay Red Jar for everyone. My mother and grandmother can attest to that too.

Whether you are just needing a new everyday moisturizer or want to pick up the SPF packed version before your next trip, I highly recommend Olay Regenerist Whip. It has the high-end skincare feels with the drugstore price and you don’t have to fly all the way to Tokyo to get it;)

Holiday Girls Night In Ideas with Olay Face Masks

I’m such a homebody at heart so it’s not uncommon (especially during the holidays) to find me snuggled up on the couch in my cozies, with a face mask on, sipping mama’s homemade hot chocolate (recipe here) and watching a good chick flick. I recently had the opportunity to try out Olay’s new launch of their clay stick face masks and I am so excited to share my favs. I like to use face masks just like the next girl, but I never know which ones to use or what the difference is between all of them. With so many on the market, it can be a little overwhelming am I right?!

I’ve also heard of the term “multi-masking” but felt a little too out of my element to give it a try it until recently. If you don’t know what “multi-masking” is, it is just what it sounds like: using multiple face masks at one time. The purpose of multi-masking is to target different facial needs since most of us don’t have the same type of skin or problem areas all over our face. While this Instagram famous beauty trend seems like playing Picasso on your face, it really is quite genius!

If you think about it, your T zone is usually oiliest which tends to cause clogged pores and breakouts. Because of this you want a mask that will target those stressed out areas, detox and reduce those pores, and leave your skin feeling nice and refreshed. Insert my favorite Olay Pore Detox clay stick Mask here! While I primarily use it on my forehead, I will also apply it on my nose and chin depending on how clogged my pores are in those areas. Personally, I saw the most noticeable results with this face mask being that I have oily, acne-prone skin and this mask left my skin feeling cleaner and softer than ever!

Moving onto the other areas of your face, your cheeks are normally going to be the dryer part of your face. They need hydration. Insert the Olay Glow Boost clay stick Mask here! Not only does this mask hydrate your skin, it leaves it with a natural looking glow. It brings new skin cells to life with micro-exfoliating white charcoal. This mask is very mild and is a good one to use all over on days that your skin feels a little dull.

Lastly, our skin always have those problem areas that just need a little extra TLC some days. Insert the Olay Fresh Reset clay stick Mask here! This mask is great just what it sounds like- a skin refresh. It is infused with anti-oxidant minerals to give your skin the extra loving that it needs. Lately my skin has been having horrible hormonal acne, so I will trade off between this mask and the Pore Detox.

The best part about these masks is that they are inexpensive and can be found at your local Walmart. With a low-price tag like that, you might as well try out all three. Why wear one mask when you could wear three at one time?! Another pus is that they are mess free You can apply the stick right onto your face without having to dirty your hands. This is actually better for your face as you are not getting dirt and bacteria from your hands onto your face.

If you do decide to have a girls night in complete with an Olay Stick mask or three, don’t forget that Hallmark Channel is already playing Christmas movies (eek!) and that mama’s homemade hot chocolate is just 4 ingredients. Talk about the perfect girls night in:)

Let me give you a little backstory on my skin. We’ve been in a complicated relationship for some time now. Basically since those teenage years when it decided to go all high maintenance on me. After years of breakouts, I swore off moisturizer because I was convinced it was making my skin greasy and therefore causing the breakouts.

Fast forward to my mid-twenties and I am just now reintroducing moisturizers back into my daily routine. I recently had the opportunity to partner with Olay on their new product launch of Whips! I got to be one of the first few to do a blind product test without knowing the brand behind it. This was my first time to participate in something like this and I thought it was genius! Not only was it intriguing to try and figure out the brand, it took away any predispositions or prejudices so that I was able to give a complete and honest review.

For my very first take on Whip I really had to use my five senses. Ok, maybe not taste or hearing but the other three were put to good use. Smell is a big one for me as I am very sensitive when it comes to scents. Whips definitely has a fragrance to it, whereas I normally prefer facial products to be fragrance free. While I will say the smell initially made me question if I’d like the overall product, it did not end up being a deterring factor for me.

The look of Whip is different than any other moisturizer that I have ever used. Instead of the creamy consistency that I was accustomed to, Whips was almost more of a translucent liquid. Think about what coconut oil looks like. That is what Whips reminded me of!

The touch of Whip is what intrigued me the most. It truly is the most light weight and refreshing product that I have ever felt. You would have thought you just splashed water on your face and let it air dry with how refreshing this product felt. You would also think with how light weight it is that you would need a lot of it to achieve moisturized skin but you really don’t!

After using Olay’s Total Effects Whip for the past month I can honestly say that it is one of a kind. It’s ability to leave your skin feeling hydrated all day without looking greasy by the end of the day is what sold me. For someone with extremely sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts, Whip has minimized the amount of oil and grease that I deal with on a normal basis and has left my skin feeling better than it ever has!

For the longest time if you had asked me what my #1 Christmas wish was, I would have told you perfect skin! My skin still has a ways to go, but thanks to Whip, I’m happy to say that I have finally found a moisturizer that my sensitive skin LOVES and craves!
