Day to Night: Working Nine to Wine

For those that are new around here, I worked in corporate America for 3 years after college. It’s actually where I started my blog and first shared my love for putting together outfits, which at the time was all work wear since I was working that 9-5 life. After I quit my corporate job, I still made a point to share office wear because frankly there aren’t enough bloggers that do and isn’t that what most women wear on a daily basis? I got you girl.

For me: a 20 something, single, city girl; I was always ready for happy hour or some social event right after work which meant wearing something to work that I could easily transition to after 5 attire. Even now, I firmly believe in purchasing clothes that are wearable for many occasions for example work to weekend or church to wedding. You get what I mean! I will not purchase a piece of clothing if I know I will only be able to wear it one time or for one specific purpose which is why I started my Day to Night series. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you can do so here.

LITTLE BLACK DRESS

There is nothing more classy or timeless than a little black dress am I right? Even better if it’s office appropriate! See below for a roundup of some of my favorites.

If dresses aren’t your thing, you can’t go wrong with a statement top and a quick change-a-roo from your work slacks into a pair of jeans for date night. I used to always keep a pair of jeans, black heels and red lipstick in my car for emergencies and I highly suggest you do the same 😉 Some of my favorite statement blouses below!

Whenever I was still working in the corporate world I think I googled “creative office style” more times than I could count. I was sick of wearing the same thing on rotation every week and felt like none of my work clothes were very “cute” or “me”. One source of inspiration that I continually went back to was Mary Orton from the Memorandum blog. Working ladies, she is GOALS. Her outfits were always way out of my price range but I always had fun trying to recreate her looks for 1/20th of the cost she paid:)

If you are in a work clothes rut and looking for a fun piece to add into your rotation, try a midi skirt! I personally love the idea of midi skirts in the office because they are an appropriate length while still being feminine and cute! It’s a stand out piece that everyone is sure to recognize which is one positive. The other is that it’s longer than a pencil skirt which means you don’t have to shave as high LOL. The less effort to get ready in the mornings, the better. You feel me?

I rounded up several other midi skirts that are appropriate for the office and sure to be a staple in your closet. The great thing about all of these is that you could dress them down for the weekend as well. My favorite way to style a midi skirt lately is with a graphic tee and sneakers!

Day to Night: Mesh Sleeve Top

Work Wear Wednesday

Work Wear Wednesday

It’s been a hot minute since I did a day to night work wear edition and they are always some of my favorites! While I am no longer in the corporate world, styling work wear is always my fav. I showed these pictures to Mama Adams last week and she goes “You need to stop wearing leggings and start wearing more work wear!”. While I can promise you the leggings are never going to stop, I do want to get better about showing you how to style one piece multiple ways more often because I like the challenge:) So if you have any items of clothing you want me to style multiple ways, let me know! Or if you just want to see more creative work wear options like this mesh sleeved top, let me know that too!

This fun mesh top runs true to size and is a piece that can easily take you from day to night. If you don’t feel like the mesh sleeves are appropriate for your office environment, wear a blazer over it and then shed the blazer for happy hour! I am loving this pink one on major sale that would look cute paired with that top and a black pencil skirt.

My pro tip for all of my working ladies that want to easily transition their outfit from day to night is to always stash a pair of black strappy heelsjeans and a bold lip color (my go-to is MAC “Diva”) in your desk drawer or car. Another item that has found a permanent place in my car trunk as well is a leather jacket because you can’t tell me that this doesn’t automatically up the cool factor on any outfit you put on! There are so many times these 3 essentials saved me from having to make a quick dash home and wasting perfectly good happy hour time! #priorties

Keeping it short and sweet today on account that I am heading to Cabo in T minus 2 days and still have nothing to wear.. oops. Two of my favorite retailers for workwear are having BIG sales! LOFT is having 40% off with code NEWNOW and Ann Taylor is having 40% off + an additional 10% off with code 10FORYOU.

Both my sweater and top in today’s post are included in the LOFT sale and are great transitional pieces. If you don’t already own a pair of navy trousers, these cropped pants have the most darling ribbon detail down the sides and a rounded hem. In a world full of plain trousers, why not add a little something extra when you can?! If you have never owned LOFT pants, I alway suggest sizing down. I wear a 00P in this brand.

My striped sweater is a good transition piece as it is light weight enough to carry you into Spring so you don’t have to sweat on your walk from your car into the office. I sized up to a small for a looser fit but I would say it runs true to size. Mentionable features about this sweater include the two tone stripes and split side. In a world full of stripes, this sweater takes the cake for being different. It also comes in blue!

I can’t believe it’s been almost 2 months since I’ve sat down to write a Work Wear Wednesday post. You’d think since I’m wearing business attire 40+ hours a week, that some of that would make it’s way over to the blog! Well, I promise to get a little bit more consistent just as soon as I recover from surgery a little bit more.

These pants have actually been in my closet for months now and I have just slowly been watching this paperbag waist trend pop up more and more. I am naturally drawn to any sort of work attire that remotely feels like pajamas. Let’s be real for a second, if I could get away with wearing pajamas 24/7, I would do it in a heart beat. Needless to say, if it remotely looks, feels or resembles pajamas in any way, but could pass as being semi (we will take what we can get) professional, then it is fair game.

For all of my working gals out there that struggle to find pants that fit them, that is one of the great things about these paperbag pants. In fact, I would put them right up there with drawstring pants. Both of these options are becoming more and more acceptable to wear to work and paired with the right pair of pumps, you can make just about any pair of pants work appropriate! I’ve linked a few pairs for you guys at different price points below.

Before signing off on today’s post, I wanted to let you all in on a HUGE sale that is going on. LOFT is having their friends and family sale event that offers 40% off their entire website (that includes sale items). Don’t worry, I already skimmed the entire sale and picked the best of the best here. I even made a section for my favorite work wear picks so make sure you check it out! Happy shopping my friends! It’s totally justifiable when it’s on sale right? It’s like you are making money 😉
