Winter fashion

Gone Wild

Did the post name catch you off guard? Well between my faux sheep skin vest and leopard shoes I thought it was pretty appropriate! To be honest when I saw this vest at Marshall’s I wasn’t sure about it at first. But like most things from there I bought it and took it home to play around with it. I think because it was a little different, it scared me at first. It is definitely a piece that draws your attention and stands out. But like any well-made outfit, isn’t that a good thing?! I love when people compliment me for wearing something different or when they say “Oo I haven’t seen that before”. Fashion is a statement of self expression and if you like it, then wear it! The magic happens the moment you venture to wear something that isn’t what everyone else is wearing and is authentic to you.

I love how high fashion this vest makes me feel and not to mention it is super soft and comfortable! The length hits right above my knee making it a little longer than most normal vests. Between the length and the fur this vest is hands down a bold statement piece for anyone’s closet.

You’ve probably noticed from other posts but I just can’t get enough of this MAC lipstick shade in “Diva”. It is the perfect fall/winter color! You can get it here!

My roomie gave me this beautiful pendant necklace for Christmas and sadly it is no longer available online but I have linked a couple similar options herehere and here (very cute Kate Spade option).

I had so much fun putting together this outfit. If you are scared to venture away from “the norm”, my advice is to start small. That is kind of what I did here. I love the faux fur trend but when I saw this vest I thought it blew the normal little fur vest out of the water. I had never seen one like this before. The length took it to a whole new level. So what you can do is take a trend that is already in place and put your own spin on it. Try a different color, different length, different pattern, pair 2 trends together, break a fashion rule (because there are no rules in fashion and don’t you think otherwise), etc. Do whatever it is to make it your own and then rock it!

Faux Real

Houston sure did see some beautiful weather this past weekend and I soaked up every bit of it that I could! I spent my weekend with my best girl friends eating some good food, checking out Karbach Brewery’s new renovation, and celebrating Margret’s (from Style The Girl) soon-to-be bundle of joy. How did you spend your weekend? I would love to hear!

This look was created from a lot of old pieces that I had in my closet and my new pair of over-the-knee boots that I recently picked up from my neighborhood Marshalls. The faux fur trend has stuck around and if you don’t already own a faux fur vest in every color (I’m definitely guilty of this), then I would highly recommend getting one that has mainly blacks and browns in it. I love that I can wear it with black or brown shoes!

My birthday was last month so I used my 50% off birthday discount to get this beautiful Kendra Scott ring. If you didn’t see my previous post with all of your birthday month specials, you can check it out here.

Dress (similar) // Vest (similar splurge) // Boots // Watch // Ring

With Houston’s weather being so bipolar this vest is an easy go-to piece for me because it keeps me warm in the morning when it’s cooler but is not too hot for when it warms up a bit. I linked a splurge option but here is a cheaper option that I still love. Have a great week everyone and thanks for stopping by 🙂

Parisian for the Day

This past weekend I met up with blogger babe, Britt (from Hello Honey Blog),in City Centre for brunch and window shopping. Ever since I studied abroad in Paris during college I have a serious love for crepes. Savory crepes, sweet crepes, breakfast crepes, dinner crepes… you name it, I’ll eat ’em all! If you follow me on snapchat I’m sure you have seen a crepe or 2.. or 100. I make and eat them all of the time! Britt had never been to Sweet Paris so we indulged in some delicious crepes before exploring.

I enjoyed the roasted turkey, brie and grape savory crepe with a nutella hot chocolate while Britt had the S’mores sweet crepe and a latte. The pictures don’t do this place justice! If you haven’t been they have 2 locations in Houston- Rice Village and City Centre.

My outfit felt just as Parisian as our crepes with a simple black and white dress and a pop of color added in with my hat and clutch. The fashion colors in Europe are a lot more muted than in America. Everybody wears very neutral colors consisting of blacks, whites and grays for the most part. I honestly wouldn’t fit in over there because adding in color to my outfits is my favorite!

Dress (similar) // Boots (on sale) // Hat // Clutch (different color) // Earrings // Sunglasses

I picked up this dress last week at a Dillard’s outlet (originally $140 but on sale for only $19!) and unfortunately they are now sold out online, but I have linked a very similar one. I am very petite (5’4”) so finding a flattering dress can be a difficult task. This fit and flare look is perfect for all body types since it accentuates curves up top, a tiny waste, and elongates your legs. For an added bonus this dress has the vertical lines on it which further elongate your legs and slim the stomach area. So all in all the fit and flare trend is a win-win all around! If you are wanting to try out this super flattering dress trend here are a few more super cute options- hereherehere, and here.

Something Blue.

Happy Monday everyone and hope you all had a great weekend! I got to have a pretty relaxing weekend which consisted of lots of movies, played with my new camera, had a brunch date with Britt (from Hello Honey blog), and visited my parents. All in all it was a much needed break from what seems like such a busy last few weeks.

For Christmas my mom gave me the most beautiful blue coat that I have ever laid eyes on. I am a sucker for anything blue because it is such a fun, bright color and makes those blue eyes pop! O and speaking of mama I get my love for fashion from her, and budget fashion at that. We call her the Queen of Ross and Marshalls! So you can see where my Marshalls/Tj Maxx obsession comes from. I will have to feature her on the blog here pretty soon so you all can see the cutest mama around!

On black Friday I scored some amazing Loft finds including this dress with it’s darling beaded collar. Have you ever heard it’s all in the details? This dress sure got the memo! With details that stand out like that, I like to down play my accessories. I went with some iridescent earrings and ring that don’t overpower the detailing on the dress.

This dress is so modest, yet so chic and high fashion. You could easily transition this outfit from day to night. I have worn this dress to work, to holiday events, and would most definitely wear it out to dinner. To say it is a versatile look would be pretty accurate! The booties that I am wearing I scored earlier in the season for $20 at Ross but I have linked a similar pair.

Before ending today’s post I’d like to share with you guys that I hit a milestone this weekend-1,000 followers on Instagram!! It may not sound like much but it was my goal to get one thousand followers by the time I hit my 3 month mark and I met that goal 2 weeks early. So I wanted to say thank you to all of you and that I plan on celebrating all of these little milestones because the small things matter! I didn’t know if launching the blog would go anywhere and you all are showing me that I might actually know what I am talking about. Thank you for following along on this crazy journey with me and letting me share my love for fashion with you guys!

Scarf-vest.

Happy hump day everyone! I can’t believe we are already in our second week of the New Year! Anyone else already struggling to stay on track with those New Year’s resolutions? I have yet to start my biggest one, using my planner! My sister gave me the cutest one for Christmas and I have been studying it, planning how I am going to attack using it, and trying to organize everything I already have planned for the year. But I haven’t actually written a single thing down yet. It sounds insane I know! It’s almost too pretty to write in… just almost.

This outfit was inspired by a trend that I had seen pop up and was dying to try- blanket scarf turned vest! I find it funny that last season I had all of these blanket scarves but really didn’t wear them because I didn’t know how. Now this season there are a million in one ways to wear them so I have had fun pulling them all out of the back of my closet and giving them a second shot. Purple is hands down my favorite color and for some crazy reason it does not exist in my wardrobe! Since winter makes it a little more difficult to add color in to your outfit, being that you don’t have all of the bright options that summer brings, I try to add pops of color whenever I can. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE a good winter neutrals look and you can find me wearing this sweater dress, leggings and boots combo all day everyday, but adding color just brightens up an outfit.

This easy make shift scarf vest is the easiest to pull off. If you already have a scarf simply hang it around your neck and belt it around your stomach. I used a pretty small belt so that it would create the cinched look i was going for. Also my scarf was a pretty big size so i folded it in half length wise before draping around my neck.

Can we talk about these boots for a minute?! If a pair of shoes has ever made me feel like a million bucks, these are them! They look so sleek and chic! Now if only I had thought to buy them in every color 😉
