I am so excited to announce that I will be starting up a new series on the blog called Work Wear Wednesday! A few times throughout the month I want to bring you ladies a few styles that are work appropriate as well as any advice that I can provide for all of my girl bosses out there! I have a full time job as a supply analyst in the energy industry and then blog with whatever hours are left in the day. Since a large part of starting this blog had to do with my first year of navigating my way in the working world while also seeming to “find” my own sense of work style, I thought that it was only appropriate to start sharing that part of my life with you! I would by no means call myself an expert on this stuff and you won’t find me going on any feminist rants, but I do aspire to inspire ladies in the workforce to always put your best (dressed) foot forward. I am a firm believer that when you put effort into your appearance, you are more motivated to also put effort into your daily responsibilities. One of my favorite quotes (as girly as it is) is “No mater how you feel, get up, dress up, show up, and never give up.”

Work Wear Wednesdays (WWW) are designed for anyone that has a reason that they need to wear something that is a bit more “professional”. The way we dress makes a statement and first impressions are everything. So whether it’s an interview, a business meeting, or just some other reason that you want to send a message that “I mean business”, my hope is that you leave here feeling inspired to put just as much effort into your work attire that you would into any other outfit!

I wanted to start off this series with a few things that I would consider a “must have” when it comes to attire that I am apt to throw on in the morning. Let’s be real, us girl bosses need our beauty sleep, we definitely don’t want to wake up any earlier than we have to and most certainly don’t want to spend longer “primping” than absolutely necessary. Hang tight. I’ve got you covered. 1) Dresses are by far the easiest piece of clothing to throw on in the mornings. This Splash of Sass dress covered my top 2 requirements: comfy and chic. 2) If you do not already own a few neutral colored pumps, it’s time to invest. At the very least you need a pair of sensible brown, black and white heels. They go with EVERYTHING. 3) Minimal accessories are best for work. This is mostly a personal preference for me since I am on the computer all day so I personally think that they get in the way. Let your outfit make a statement so that you don’t have to worry about the accessories. Less work for you!

I’ve linked a few save vs. splurge options above and below for all price points. Stay tuned each week for my work style inspiration and how I seem to manage two jobs. I will do my best to share my best kept secrets and feel free to let me know what else you would like to hear about. I would love to cover any topics that you are interested in!

For all of my Houston area ladies, make sure you check out A Splash of Sass out in Cypress,TX. Like I said, my adorable dress is from here and although their website shop page is currently in the works, you can call them (832-559-8789) to order my dress and they will ship nation wide. They also have the best selection of trendy clothes, accessories and gifts that any girl would love, not to mention the owners are a hoot so make sure you check them out!

If you have been following along with me on Instagram or Snapchat (username: shelbiadams), then you know that I got back today from Costa Rica. I will do a full recap of my trip on Wednesday, but until then I just wanted to let you all know that I had an amazing time, the weather was absolutely perfect, the food was exceptional, and the sunburn is in full effect. OUCH is an understatement. As sad as I am for my little vacation to come to an end, I am excited to get back to work and back into my normal routine!

Today’s post is all about this color block dress from Charming Charlie that is perfect for all of my working gals. When it comes to work clothes, I am a major fan of a comfortable, professional dress. Dresses require the least amount of thought in the morning since they are quick to throw on. Anyone else not a morning person? Dresses have been my saving grace on more mornings than not when I am not in the mood to spend a lot of time getting ready.  The best part about a dress with as much character as this one is that it needs minimal accessories. When picking out a functional work dress, my best advice is to choose one that is the perfect mix of simple and charismatic. I have found my favorites to be a simple pattern, a mix of colors, intricate detailing (like scalloped trim), or an unconventional fit (like an A-line, fit and flare, or pencil skirt).

Now when it comes to accessories, this is where you get to play. If my outfit does not have much color to it, you can bet the accessories will bring the outfit to life. Mint and leopard were the perfect touch to take this work dress from cute to totally chic. If you do not already own a leopard heel, they seriously are my go-to heel to take a simple outfit to the next level and here are a few of my other favorites- here and here.

For all of my Houston friends, I hope you were able to stay dry and if not that you did not suffer terrible damages. As always, you all are in my thoughts and prayers and I hope that you have a great week!

*Thank you Charming Charlie for sponsoring this post. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.*

Pink Peplum & How to Use Like To Know It

Ok we continue on with our week of Valentine’s Day outfit inspiration! Don’t forget to read all the way to the bottom of the post because I have a little “how to” on Like To Know It. Don’t know what that is? Well its your new best friend so see below! As some of you may know, I have a full time job as a supply analyst. Because of this, I am in business casual attire Monday through Friday so having a look that I can transition from the office to after work functions is important to me. And it’s not always easy to pull off either. I battle with wanting to be comfortable yet professional at work and then fashionable yet not too done up after work. Can you see how that might get a little difficult trying to please all of those requirements in a single outfit?!image

This peplum trend is definitely one of my favorites. It is so flattering! Any top that lets my stomach expand (because let’s be honest you are bound to have a food baby some days after lunch) without actually showing it is a good top in my book! Plus when a top can be bold on it’s own, it doesn’t require you to pile on accessories. I usually tend to wear minimal jewelry as it is so I try to to spice up my outfit where I can!

Pink and cheetah… could it get more girly? They really do pair so nicely together!

As girly as I am, I can honestly say that pink is not a very common color in my closet. This pink peplum is flirty and bold- 2 qualities your outfit should be for Valentine’s Day! I’m proving that you don’t have to get done up in a dress to look sexy. Hot pink and cheetah does the trick as well! If you are loving this peplum trend and what to try it in a dress version, I went ahead and found some options here and here.
