Make sure to check back here throughout the holidays as I will be continuously updating this post with new finds including accessories, shoes and dressy faux fur/coat options to wear with your formal attire.
I’ve been to a handful of music festivals in my life but never have I ever been to one when it was freezing cold outside. I attended Austin City Limits (ACL) for the second year and everything was just as amazing as year one minus the fact it was about 40 degrees colder! Typically fashion wise when it comes to music festivals, I would reach for all of the crochet, sheer and neon outfits but this festival called for a few more layers. I was happy to say that all of my outfits kept me warm and still fashionable for the weekend so if you are headed to a music festival where the temps aren’t in your favor, here is some outfit inspo below. If you are heading to a music festival where the temps are a little warmer, check out this post.
A big thank you to Honda for sponsoring my ACL shenanigans! I had the opportunity to test drive and ride around In the 2020 Honda Insight Hybrid for the weekend. Not only was it a chic and smooth ride, it had so many cool features. Since it was chilly during our stay, the seat heaters definitely came in handy! Beyond that, I also loved whenever you use your right blinker, a live video of the car’s right side comes on the center screen to make sure you don’t hit the curb. By the looks of my own wheels, this feature sold me immediately on this car. Other cool features included the Honda Sensing Technology that gently corrected the car if you went outside of your lane, a high tech navigation, quiet engine, spacious inside, and sleek exterior design. If you are in the market for a new car, I would definitely consider adding the Honda Insight to your list, especially if you are looking for a great value and fuel efficient car!
I’ve had several requests over the years to do a seasonal capsule wardrobe and I’m so excited to be sharing my very first one. After years of buying pieces that just laid around in my closet all season long, I’ve narrowed down what I consider to be my most worn wardrobe staples. If you haven’t heard of the term capsule wardrobe, it is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that never go out of style augmented with a few seasonal or trendy pieces. So if you are trying to purge the excess in your closet and invest in pieces that you know you will get their money’s worth, look no further!
TOPS & COATS
The key to having a killer wardrobe starts here and it’s all about layers and mixing prints. Sweaters come a dime a dozen, so find a couple that you love. My two most worn in my closet are this v neck sweater that I can layer a striped tee or plaid button down under. It instantly takes your outfit to the next level without having to wear a coat. The second is this cowl neck sweater that is long enough to wear with leggings or can be front tucked into a pair of jeans.
When it comes to coats, moto jackets are my personal favorite. I own both the BlankNYC suede and leather moto jackets. I like that they are a more fitted coat, not too bulky and have a slight edgy look. If you are wanting to layer anything more than a long sleeve tee underneath, I suggest sizing up in these. If you are needing a jacket with more warmth, this is the best parka out there and comes in so many pretty colors.
BOTTOMS & DRESSES
This might be the easiest part of your wardrobe simply because there’s not a ton of options out there and you just need a few good basics that will go with everything. Invest in two great pairs of denim- a basic denim pair and a black denim. My two favorite denim brands that have lasted me years are Levi and Madewell. You’ll definitely want a pair of faux leather leggings in your wardrobe. They can be dressed up or down and be worn with everything from sneakers to over the knee boots.
When it comes to skirts, I suggest investing in dresses that can double as skirts to get maximum use out of your pieces. This sweater dress can be worn as is or paired with a sweater over top of it to make it look like a skirt. In addition to a good midi dress/skirt option, I always like having a suede mini skirt in my closet for date night or girl’s night out options. My favorite way to pair them is with a sweater and over the knee boots.
ACCESSORIES & SHOES
I’m not a big accessory gal myself so I don’t go overboard here. A wide brim hat and a couple of scarves should do the trick and go with every outfit. My favorite way to pair a plaid blanket scarf is with a striped tee. It’s always a fun way to mix patterns. As for a bag, I usually switch to a tote for the cooler months. I love the quality of this Madewell leather tote.
Now when it comes to Fall/Winter shoes and accessories there are really not many that you need. If you invest in one pair of shoes, it should most definitely be a pair of neutral booties that can go with everything- denim, leggings, skirts and dresses. My favorite pair this season are the Gigietta booties. I own them in two colors! Make sure to size up a half size. After booties, the other two pairs of shoes I would say are must haves is a pair of knee high boots and a statement pair of flats. I’m loving this snakeskin pair and love wearing them with solids and stripes for a little pattern play.
And if you are looking for style inspiration or a few different ways to wear these pieces, see below! I’d love to hear your feedback on my first capsule wardrobe! Can you see yourself wearing these pieces? Which were your favorites? Least favorites? Let me know if you’d want to see one for the Spring/Summer!
Walmart has done it again! So many great basics for Fall so I’m back with another try on session! For sizing reference, I am 5’4″, 115 pounds and typically wear an XS in tops and bottoms. Time and Tru is usually my favorite brand to shop at Walmart but lately I’ve found really good finds from Scoop and Dreamers By Debut too!
Avia Hoodie Tunic– If you get one thing, make it this! Meant to be a workout top but just as good if not better than a lot of the Aerie tunics. It has thumb holes and is long enough to wear with leggings. SO SOFT. Comes in several colors and runs true to size. Wearing a small.
Avia Leggings – I can’t find these exact leggings online but Avia makes several patterns and colors that I high recommend. They have the quality of several high end brands. They are high waisted and have tummy control. They run true to size. Wearing an XS.
Windbreakerplus sizes– This little windbreaker is water resistent and a cute athletic option. It has pockets and a drawstring around the waist to make it tighter. It runs small as it’s a junior’s item. Size up! It also comes in .
V-Neck Tunic Sweater– Size up if in between sizes as this sweater runs a little short. I’m in the XS but would have preferred the small! It has 3/4 sleeves and is very lightweight.
Sherpa Jacket– These are just $10 and come in several color combos. They are junior sizes so they are a bit fitted. I suggest sizing up at least one sizes and if wanting it oversized, size up 2 sizes. It also comes in plus sizes.
Button Front Plaid– Grab this in ALL of the pattern combos it’s that good and will be great for layering purposes. It is very soft and flexible. It runs true to size. I’m in the size small.
Boat Neck Top– Such a great work to weekend top! It’s stretchy and a good in between of a sweater and a tee. It runs on the bigger side so if in between sizes, size down. I’m wearing an XS.
Casual Moto Jacket– Great alternative to the popular suede BlankNYC moto jacket. This one is a cotton material, stretchy, and much less warm. It is incredibly comfortable and will be a great piece to wear now and later. Oh and it’s just $25! I got the small but would have preferred an XS.
Sherpa Vest – $10 and comes in several colors! It feels much more expensive than $10. It is sherpa on the inside and out and has pockets too! It runs true to size. Wearing a small.
Sweater – This is one of those sweaters you are going to want to buy in ALL of the colors. It’s $11 and SO soft that it almost feels like cashmere. Would also be office appropriate. It runs a little oversized so if wanting for the office, size down, otherwise true to size. Wearing a small.
Sherpa Cardigan – Ladies this is the softest thing EVER. Probably something I will only wear around the house but for $12 it is worth it. It comes in several colors. The oatmeal is probably my favorite color combo. It runs true to size. I’m wearing a small.
Pajama Set – This set is fleece lined making it extremely soft and pretty warm. It has cuffs on the wrists and ankles so it won’t ride up in your sleep and functioning buttons. If runs big so if in between sizes, size down.
