Another day closer to the holiday weekend has me counting down the hours until I get to bust out the red, white and blue and sip watermelon mojitos by the pool. Whose with me? I’m getting ready for July 4th today with a little help from Charming Charlie. I plan on beating the heat the best way I know how- some cut offs, all white, and my favorite sunnies. Ok maybe that watermelon mojito might help cool me down too so now that I think about it, I might need to have 2 of those 🙂

Embroidery is timeless and always will be! As far as trends go, this is one that always catches my eye in any store that I go in. I love mixing old with new when it comes to clothing, colors, and especially trends. White on white might seem like a new trend that you are seeing, but it could not be more timeless. If done properly it is such a flattering look. With all of this Houston heat, I chose to pair this cute embroidered top white my go-to white shorts, but a pair of white jeans would also look great with this ensemble. My favorite pair of white skinnies are these Joes jeans.

White jeans are definitely one piece of clothing that I suggest not skimping on because if someone has to debate if you are wearing white leggings or white skinny jeans, you are probably going to regret not spending those extra dollars. White in general is a color you want to make sure the quality of the clothing is well..high quality. Anything that is too tight or see through, white amplifies. So if you are questioning it in the store, move on to the next piece. If you are scared to go all white, try a top that is predominantly white with small pops of color. It will help you ease into the look instead of diving straight in.

Well I’ve officially caught a cold and I’m wallowing. I rarely get sick and frankly it’s probably a good thing because I’m so pathetic when I’m sick! Since being in the working world, I’ve learned that there really isn’t time to be under the weather. Like ain’t nobody got time for that… but that’s easier said than done right? So I’m loading up on all the cold medicine I can get my hands on and saying a prayer that this blows over fast!

I get asked questions all the time about my blogging journey and specific aspects of my “double life” all the time. I want to shed some light on 3 important questions that I get asked from time to time.

Do you blog full time? Nope. Maybe one day but right now I am a Supply Analyst from 8-5, Monday through Friday and then I blog pretty much every hour that I’m not at work or sleeping. So while I don’t technically blog full time, I sometimes feel like I have 2 full time jobs by the amount of hours I put in every week between the two, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
How do you keep a work/life balance? I don’t. Hence the sickness. I am over-exhausting myself by trying to put my all into everything that I do, when in reality I am probably not able to give 100% in every area of my life since I have spread myself so thin. It’s definitely a work in progress. Eventually I will get to where I have a work/life balance (or so I tell myself) as soon as I can get a grip on navigating two full time jobs. If any of you have tips on this, I am all ears!
Why do you get so dressed up for work? Because I am a firm believer in “if you look good, you feel good”. Also a guilty confession: getting ready in the morning is my favorite part of the day! That might sound sad to some people but I’ve loved hair, makeup and fashion since I was little. Getting put together in the morning and looking good for the day makes me feel productive and sometimes we need that extra push to get us going, plus countless studies have shown that you are more productive when you make an effort on your appearance. So if you don’t trust me, then trust science! Dressing up is good for you!

Casual Weekend Wear

We’re half way through the week and I’ve got the weekend on my brain. After having a busy weekend this past week with the conference I am ready to relax a bit and celebrate my dad’s birthday. I am fortunate that my parents also live in Houston so we make the drive out there (I say out there because Houston is HUGE and they still live 30 minutes away) pretty often. I don’t know about you guys but when I am not working my go to casual outfit to throw on is some jeans and an easy t-shirt. 99% of the time my hair is in a top knot and my make-up is not on point. But then I feel like a slob and I’ll try to look presentable by throwing on some lipstick and accessories. It work’s every time! Have y’all seen that quote, “there is always lipstick”? Well I truly believe that it can do wonders for your presentation. I took this outfit from drab to fab with just a pop of color on my lips, accessories and cute shoes. It’s all in the details. I can’t stress that enough!

This Wallaby bag by Charming Charlie could not be more perfect to throw all of my stuff into for all of my weekend festivities. The best part is that it is so versatile that I can wear it with anything. It can be worn as a satchel or handbag and comes in so many colors. What are you guys doing for the weekend? I am going to see Jason Aldean and Jason Derulo at the Houston Rodeo tomorrow and Friday. The rodeo is my favorite time of the year and fried Oreos may or may not have everything to do with it. The inner fatty in me waits all year for this 🙂

Color block Poncho.

I can’t help but smile because it’s the weekend and we are officially less than a week away from Christmas!! I hope all of you lovelies have a great time off from the hustle and bustle and can put your feet up. I really should take my own advice on that one 🙂

Can you tell we danced in the rain a bit getting these pictures in?! My hat is proof of it! A cold front blew through Houston and I immediately pulled out this cute poncho that is more like a blanket because it is so soft! All I did was throw on a casual black top and jeans and let the poncho do the talking for this outfit. I dressed the outfit up a bit more with a winter hat, booties and accessories. I picked up these cute, gold bracelets at the Houston Nutcracker Market and have been wearing them on repeat since they literally go with everything! As always (or so my blog would tell) maroon and winter hats are a season favorite of mine that keep popping up in my attire. You know it’s bad when you have to tell yourself you aren’t allowed to wear hats with every single outfit. Oops! Every other one is totally acceptable though right? 😉
