Tuesday Trends: Maxi & Midi Dresses

Maxi & Midi Dresses

After wearing this $25 maxi dress all weekend long, I figured this week’s Tuesday Trends post would be dedicated to maxi and midi dresses, mainly because I obviously need to purchase a few more so I don’t have to wear the same one three days in a row. Rounding up a few of my favorites below!

For those of you wondering, the whole no white after Labor Day rule does not exist in my rule book. Then again, there are very few “fashion rules” that I really live by. I am pretty open about the fact that I think you should rock whatever style your heart desires and forget the fashion rules. Since I’ve had several people ask me about this specific rule, I went ahead and polled several of my blog friends and every single one of them agreed with me that the color white has become a year round color. Thank goodness because I own WAY too much white to limit it to one season!

Let’s skip to this darling crochet midi dress that I wore while I was in New York. It is a toss up between the collar and crochet detailing as to why this is the most chic dress that I own. For under $70, this crochet midi dress is very high quality and multifunctional. From brunch to work to cocktail hour, this dress does it all!

Since I am a little late posting this and it is still somewhat warm where I am, I paired the crochet midi dress with a colored bag and shoes. I can’t wait to wear this dress through the Fall with some black pumps and a leather jacket for an edgier vibe. Like I said before, this dress really can do it all, and for under $70 at that!

I know I’ve said this before and I’m calling it now that there is a good chance that I might say this again, but I think this might be my favorite outfit to date! One of my favorite parts about blogging is trying out new fashion trends and figuring out what works and what doesn’t. Midi length is just what it sounds like, it is short for midiskirt and ends at the middle of the calf.

Today I am trying out the midi trend. I tried the midi trend in a dress version here, but had yet to find a skirt that I felt like I could really rock. That was until I found this playful, flamingo number. The skirt is the hard part of the outfit, so I suggest finding your skirt first and going from there. Chic Wish has the best selection of fun midi skirts to choose from that I have seen. I had my eye on this one and this one before finally deciding on my little flamingo friend.

Now for your top. The way I see it is you have 3 options. 1) Crop top 2) Bodysuit 3) Blouse. If you decide to go the crop top route like I did, be sure to pick one that will compliment the skirt. Since my skirt was a bit on the nicer side, I picked a crop top that was equally as nice and would not show too much midriff. Bodysuits are also a great option to pair with poofy midi skirts, like this one, because they do not add any extra bulk and always look perfectly smooth and tucked in. Lastly, if you are looking to wear your midi skirt to work or a more professional style setting, you might want to wear a top that isn’t too tight or won’t show your tummy. A blouse that is not too flowy when it is tucked in will work best so that you don’t have too much volume up top. Since your skirt is most likely going to be the statement piece of this outfit, your best bet is going to be a more simple top. Your outfit should always be about balance so if the skirt is patterned, try a solid top, for a flowy skirt, try a more fitted top, etc.

Find yourself a cute pair of colored heels and your look is topped off! I had been on the hunt for some pink heels well since forever so when these all but fell into my lap last week (along with 6 other pairs), I couldn’t say no. That tends to be a reoccurring problem for me these days…. Not being able to say no to shoes. There are worse problems to have though right?! And every girl needs (yes, needs) a pair of pink heels. I have worn them at least 3 times since last week so that’s proof right there!

Don’t forget to enter the $1320 Nordstrom gift card giveaway in my last post. You can find all of the details here. Have a great week, friends!
