Over the years working in a corporate job, I’ve accumulated a LOT of work clothes. Something that I have come to find as of recently is that I have far too many items hanging in my closet that only serve one purpose. Either they are strictly for the office or strictly for the weekend (aka there is no justifying making it office appropriate). I don’t have a happy medium of outfits that could swing both ways which is both annoying and not efficient. The solution? I’ve started buying items that can serve more than one function. I’ve found that a pretty safe bet to know if it passes the test, is if you know it can take you from work to happy hour without having to swing by the house for an outfit change.
After going on the hunt for items that could fit both of these scenarios, I had a couple of takeaways I think anyone looking for work wear should do as well. First off, you can make almost any sleeveless, strapless or even backless dress work appropriate by throwing on a cardigan or blazer (I list a few favorites here). If you do not have at least a few staple color cardigans, you are doing it wrong! I have cream and black colored cardigans in my car at all times. You know for emergencies and what not. This way depending on my outfit, I always have a sure source of coverage or an Antarctica (because what office isn’t?) protector if need be.
Secondly, shoes can totally change the occasion of any outfit and make it more wearable. My favorite way to take a dress from work to drinks is to throw on a strappy pair of heels. Want to wear the same outfit for a more casual look? Throw on a pair of sneakers. As long as you have at least one pair each of pumps, strappy heels, sneakers and maybe a pair of flats. You are set!
Don’t forget that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is still going on and there are lots of items still in stock, including lots of work wear! The sale ends August 6th!

And for the grand finale…. here are my favorite work wear pieces included in the sale that are under $50!!
The first day of the Nordstrom Anniversary Salefor 2017 is here! If you are a Nordstrom cardholder, you are able to shop the sale early. If you do not have a Nordstrom card, the sale will open up to the rest of the public on July 21st, just one short week away!
I stayed up all night to find what I think to be the best deals out there so far. While the majority of the sale is geared towards Fall/Winter items, I successfully found several items that you can actually wear right now (Southerners- I got you!). I am headed into Nordstrom later this morning to try on items from the sale and share how everything fits and my honest review about each item. I will post about this on the blog over the next couple of days, but get a first look by following me on Instagram! Remember these items WILL sell out fast!
*SHOP THE BELOW COLLAGES BY CLICKING ON THE ITEM THAT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN*
Although most items are geared towards the cooler weather, I was still able to find a pretty large selection of swim suits, tank tops and dresses! See more of my “wear it now” picks below!
My favorite items to shop, especially during early access, are jeans, boots, designer purses, and coats! See more of my “wear it later” picks below!
I will be covering the Nordstrom Sale lots over the next 3 weeks so make sure to bookmark IACTM as Nordstrom will add new items to the sale each day! I’ve gone ahead and added a NSALE 2017tab to the top of the blog with a drop down menu to categorize all of my favorite sale items. This is where you will find the most up to date items as I will also be updating this every day. Happy shopping friends 🙂
What’s so special about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
If you have been around here long enough, you know I haunt sales like it’s my job. Unlike other sales that mark down old or last season’s trends, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has BRAND NEW items discounted by up to 70% from brands like Tory Burch, Top Shop, MAC, Stuart Weitzman, Free People, Rebecca Minkoff and SO many more! The sale runs for 3.5 weeks with new items added each day and at the end of the sale, everything goes back to full price.
When does the sale start?
July 13th– early access starts
July 21st– sale opens to the public
August 6th– last day to shop the sale
How do I get early access?
Only Nordstrom cardholders will gain access on July 13th- a full week before the rest of the world. The reason this matters is because most of the good stuff WILL sell out before public access opens. It happens every year. If you aren’t a fan of yet another credit card, Nordstrom also offers a debit card that you can hook up directly to your checking account. In fact you don’t even have to shop the early access sale with it, you just have to own it. You must apply for a card before July 9th in order to gain access. Apply here.
How to Shop it
I am not always a fan of online shopping, but when it comes to Nordstrom, they are one retailer that I always shop online verses going into the store. They offer free shipping and free returns so I don’t have to worry about things not working out. They also offer in store pick up if you want to bypass the sale crowds or curbside pickup! When it comes to this particular sale, each Nordstrom location will have items individual to that location whereas online will have thousands of the newest stock in more available sizing.
What to Shop For
The sale will bring out new items geared for Fall/Winter but there will also be items that you can wear now! While you might not be ready just yet to think about cold weather clothing, the deals that you will score now are well worth it later on. In years past my favorite items to shop for were leather boots, lightweight jackets, designer purses, jeans, everyday tops and beauty items. I highly suggest going through your closet now to see what items you actually need verses making impulse decisions when the sale comes.
How does IACTM cover the sale?
I will be shopping the sale in real time and will update you here and social media with all of the best items including those that I think will sell out super fast.
