For those of us riding the single train this Valentine’s Day, I think I speak for all of us when I say that it’s not a holiday we care to give too much recognition to. Being single on the day of love is like a huge freaking reminder that everyone else (or so it seems) is happily in a relationship, engaged, or married. As if your grandmother dropping not so subtle hints about your relationship status wasn’t enough, stomaching all of the mushy-gushy romance on this day can be rough to say the least.

This will be my first Valentine’s Day alone in close to 8 years and I’m not sure how I feel about it. On one hand I am pretty excited that I am not having to buy a Valentine’s Day gift for anyone besides myself. And you can bet that I WILL be buying myself something because I have somehow convinced myself that that is how the world should work. My logic goes a little something like this: if I were in a relationship, I would be spending a hefty amount of mula on the one I love. Since I would have spent the money anyway, I might as well spend it on someone that I love just as much… MUAH! So thank you nonexistent boyfriend for that!

So to all of my single ladies out there, instead of spending February 14th feeling sorry for ourselves and our lack of romance, I say we celebrate this special time in our lives! On a day that makes us question “Why am I still single?”, “What’s wrong with me?”, “Will I die alone?”, I’m here to tell you that you are exactly where you are supposed to be and you should celebrate the fact that some day you will look back on this time alone and wish you would have lived it up a little more. So here are a few ways stay happy this love day and to be your own damn Valentine.

  1. Stay off of social media– As if most days besides Valentine’s Day weren’t big enough reminders of just how single you are, social media will surely do the trick. You already know that everyone and their mother will be showing off on social media of just how great their significant other is. Do yourself a huge favor and just stay off of your phone for the day. Nobody wants to see the thousands of Instagrams showing off expensive gifts, romantic gestures, and cliche acts of love (as cute as they might be).
  2. Don’t “play hermit”– It might be easy to burry yourself into a hole of self pity complete with Netflix while you drown your tears into a tub of ice cream but don’t succumb to this ladies! The world is not completely out to get you on this day so embrace being single and know you are not alone!
  3. Splurge on something for yourself– Take the money you would have spent on a Valentine”s Day present for your ex and buy yourself something really nice. Maybe it’s a couple boxes of chocolate (you do you girl) or maybe it’s a new bag. Just do it!
  4. Buy yourself flowers– I’m a big proponent that you should always buy yourself flowers. They don’t have to be a romantic gesture from a guy. For something that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg but brings instant happiness, seems like a no brainer to buy them for yourself!
  5. Pamper yourself– Ain’t nobody going to love you better than you can love yourself! Just like you would have spoiled that special Valentine, you deserve a little loving too! My personal favorite pampering sesh goes a little something like this: a bubble bath, face mask, candles and BIG glass of wine. Don’t mind if I do!

Cheers to all of the single ladies out there this Valentine’s Day and may you be your own best damn Valentine out there.

Date Night Ready

Valentine’s Day is officially 2 days away and I wanted to leave you guys with this darling lace detail dress. Lace is one of the most feminine and dainty looks and pairing that with the color red sure does make for a perfect and elegant Valentine’s look. So I couldn’t end the week of Valentine’s Day inspired posts without a girly red dress and my top date night ideas. The thing is, it doesn’t matter if your Valentine’s day is spent with family, friends, gal pals, or a loved one, let’s get a little dressed up and enjoy some time with those we care about! I have some pretty fun “play dates” that I think you all will enjoy!

This little cocktail dress is super girly, probably why I love it! You will see that the only accessories that I felt the need to pair it with are some statement earrings and a bold red lip. The dress has so much detailing on it that I didn’t want to overpower the dress with added jewelry.

Dress (very similar and only $35) // Shoes (only $20) // Earrings (similar) // Lipstick

These shoes are a knock-off of the popular Steve Madden Stecy shoes but at a quarter of the cost. When I saw them at Target I immediately bought them in every color because that’s what any sane person would do right?! Don’t worry they only came in nude and black. Thank the lord there weren’t more colors than that because I probably would have bought those too! I like to give you guys options since I know everyone likes something a little different. I have found some more red lace dress options hereherehere and here.

Date Ideas:

  1. Wine Night- Inspired by my most recent idea to start a wine club, get a couple of girlfriends together or your significant other and each bring a bottle of wine. The more wine the better for this one. My roommate has taught me this game that we find to be so much fun, especially for all you winos. Try to guess the ingredients of the wine! We usually have one person that doesn’t participate and gives clues. For example: 2 berries, 1 “earthy” ingredient, and 1 spice. It makes for some funny answers for sure. Get a cheese and meat platter selection from your local grocery store and enjoy some good conversation, play a game (mexican train is always my favorite!), or watch a movie and relax.
  2. Pizza Bar- Now if I didn’t actually have to really think about 5 good date ideas all of them would be something like this one: donut bar, pasta bar, chocolate bar….you get the picture. Go to the store and get all of the ingredients you would need to make a pizza. Set everything up at home in an assembly line format and start making away! You can find some yummy and simple pizza recipes on Pinterest if you are wanting to get adventurous! And you know what goes great with pizza right? Wine.
  3. Netflix and Chill- Now I’m not sure what your version of Netflix and chill is, but mine is basically a pajama party. Go get a couple of Netflix movies, your favorite snack, put on your fuzzy socks and pile on the blankets. For an added bonus you can take all of the couch cushions off and make a pallet on the floor with pillows and blankets like you are a little kid again! It. is. AWESOME.
  4. Painting with a Twist- If you have never been to one of these types of places they really are a blast and they are BYOB (or BYOW in my case) so that’s an added plus. Essentially it is an art class where they have a teacher that is walking you step by step how to paint a certain picture. Believe me you do not have to be an artist. They will make you feel like Picasso by the time you are done with it.
  5. Local Dessert Bar- Go to a local place that serves desserts. In Houston, my new personal favorite is Cacao & Cardamom. They have gourmet chocolates that are a work of art. Have fun sampling a few of your favorite desserts. Calories don’t count on Valentines Day!

Have a great Valentines Day with your loved ones and I can’t wait to hear what everyone did 🙂
