I have been saying all Summer long that I wanted to make a Summer bucket list like the good ol’ days and actually check everything off of it. All through high school, I would write down everything I wanted to do that Summer and then I carried that list around everywhere with me so that I could check off every last item. To this day I have kept every Summer bucket list that I have ever made. Boy are those list gold now looking back at all of the crazy shenanigans I used to write down.

While my list may no longer include sneaking out (sorry Mom!) and spin the bottle, I still love putting fun and adventurous items on my list to force myself out of my usual, day-to-day schedule! I might be a little late to the game this Summer, but I still plan on marking everything off of the list. And yes, I admit I might have put a couple on there that I already completed to help give myself a head start 😉

  1. Day trip to Galveston for a beach day
  2. Try the new Steel City Pops for a refreshing Summer sweet treat!
  3. Finish decorating my bedroom and do an unveiling on the blog… FINALLY
  4. Have a pool party with all of the best Summer pool floats
  5. Splurge on a pair of everyday sunglasses. I’m thinking about these.
  6. Buy a new, bright lipstick. I have my eyes set on this or this.
  7. Spend a Saturday morning searching for buried treasure at garage sales
  8. Buy a new swim suit. P.S.- if you didn’t already know, Victoria Secret’s clothing line (including swim suits) is going out of business and everything is 40% off!
  9. Clean out the closet- y’all stay tuned on Instagram because I plan on selling all of my gently used clothes/shoes/bags there!
  10. Deep clean the house- we’ve been living here for close to a year and it is WAY overdue.
  11. Visit a local farmer’s market
  12. Explore new Houston brunch spots and add some new places to the blog’s Houston Guide
  13. Karaoke with the girls… because I have yet to EVER do this. Who wants to join me for ladies night?!
  14. Go to a Houston Astros game
  15. Try one of the 1,000 Pinterest recipes that I pin and never actually try!
  16. Have a picnic at the park
  17. Roller blade the new bike trail through The Heights
  18. Float the Guadalupe River
  19. Stargaze on a roof
  20. Go to a drive-in movie

Now on to the part where you could win a $1320 gift card to Nordstrom! Yes, you read that right! All you have to do is enter below. The more times you enter, the better your chances! Good luck 🙂

Happy Monday friends! Is it just me or do weekends seem so much shorter in the Summer?? RIP the days when I actually had the time to get a great tan! It might only be Monday but I am already excited about the 3 day holiday weekend.

For today’s look I wanted to bring you an outfit that doesn’t scream your typical July 4th outfit. While it is fun and festive to rock those stars and stripes or all of the red, white and blue pieces that you manage to dig out of the bottom of your closet, I know some of you still want to be festive AND chic! So instead of wearing your typical colors this holiday, try changing it up a bit. Coral is a very close (and maybe a little more fun!) color to red and turquoise is blue’s better looking cousin. I wanted to keep some white in there so I ended up with a new take on your traditional red, white and blue and came out with coral, white and turquoise.

Sticking with one of my favorite Summer trends, I paired this off-the-shoulder top with these striped, coral shorts. Since I plan on being outdoors for the occasion, sandals are definitely a must. This pair just happens to be under $20 and I will be the first to admit that I own them in 3 different colors!

So if you are wanting to take a new spin on some of the traditional July 4th outfit routes, my suggestion is playing around with similar colors and patterns. You can still wear red, white and blue but don’t be afraid to put your own spin on it. When it comes to colors, don’t be afraid to branch out with similar colors, like coral and turquoise.

Another piece of advice is to rock one of your favorite red, white, blue, or similar colored attire and then add in festive details to bring your outfit together. I always like adding in pops of the holiday colors into my accessories. If you still aren’t sure what to wear this weekend, check back Wednesday for more July 4th outfit inspiration and I will also have plenty of red, white and blue throughout the week on my Instagram so make sure you are following along!

Ok I know what you are thinking… “Does this girl own anything besides dresses?”. If I were you, I would think the same thing! Going back through my recent posts, I have posted nothing but dresses and I can tell you the exact reason why. They are easy! For somebody that is constantly on the go, dresses are my best friend! They require little thought besides which shoes and jewelry match. If you haven’t read my post on why I’ll be wearing dresses all summer long you can read more about my opinion on that here. On top of dresses, there are 3 other trends that you will start to see this Summer, if you haven’t already.

  1. Back Detailing– Any dress or top that has a cool back always gets major bonus points and is sure to get you compliments! When I found this dress from Seasalt & Honey Boutique, I knew I had to have it right away and sure enough the first time I wore it everyone was obsessed with the back of it.
  2. Tassels– All tassel everything! But really. Tassel earrings, clothes, accessories, and on just about anything else that you can think of. They are huge this season and come in all forms, shapes, sizes, and colors. Plus if you are in a pinch these tassel earrings make great gifts!
  3. Bright Colors– Every year towards the beginning of Summer, you will start to see more and more of the bright colors come into play. Pink, mint, yellow, and cobalt blue are a few of my favorites. If you tend to shy away from bright colors, adding a pop of color into your accessories is the easiest way to go. For instance, with some earrings like these.

What are your favorite Summer trends that you have seen so far? I would love to hear! If you are looking for some cute summer pieces, Seasalt & Honey Boutique is your one stop shop! They have an awesome selection of trendy apparel and accessories, so make sure to check them out. Hope all of you have a wonderful week!
