One of my goals for this blog for the new year was to be more real with you guys. So here it goes. The past couple of weeks have been hard and hectic. There isn’t one thing per say that has been weighing on me but I just haven’t been motivated to do much blogging and when I do, it’s a lot easier to sit here and talk about fashion because that is more appealing than hearing me talk about my struggles. I go back and forth about sharing these things because I want the blog to be a place where you come for inspiration about life, outfits and everything in between.

So in hopes of staying inspired I want to be real with you guys. I will most likely have to have a major surgery in the coming month. When I know for sure, I will keep you all updated but that alone has scared the shiz out of me. I am a wuss when it comes to pain. On top of that I have developed anxiety over the past year and with everything going on lately, it has come back in full force.

Most of you know that I work full time, blog with whatever time is left in the day, and still manage to try and balance a social life. I wrote a post last year about my work-life balance (or lack there of) and I am happy to report that I finally feel a little more balanced. Well, most days. I’ve made a point to hang out with my friends on a normal basis (Bachelor Mondays, Taco Tuesdays, Wine Wednesdays, etc) and I’ve even started dating again! Some things have had to give, such as keeping up with the blog 3 times a week and going to as many events, but I finally feel like I’m getting a grasp on things and YALL that is a big freaking deal. It’s only taken me over a year.

While there is always something to be stressed about, and believe me I know that my anxieties are trivial when it comes to what all is going on in the world, there is almost always something to be happy about. With it being Monday and the start to a new week, I always like to think about 3 things that I am excited about. So today I am sharing those 3 things with you and I encourage you to do the same!

1.Rodeo week is here! If you don’t know how exciting that is, it’s kind of like Christmas for Texans. Let’s just leave it at that. I will have a fun post coming to the blog Wednesday on Rodeo attire so make sure to check back!

2. I am going to Puerto Vallarta! My bestie Britt from Hello Honey and I are headed off on a much needed girls trip in the next couple of weeks and I can’t freaking wait. Hello sun, tan lines, and LOTS of cocktails.

3. I got to spend the weekend with Mama Bear! My mom broke her foot in 3 places a couple of weeks ago and has not been able to drive. I got a text from her on Friday asking me if I would come hang out with her and do some shopping. I’m not good at a lot of things y’all, but retail therapy is one thing that I can safely say that I am extremely good at.

If you kept up with me this long, it really does mean the world to me. We all have off days but what is so exciting about Mondays is that they bring fresh starts and new mindsets and I’m ready to tackle this week with a positive attitude! Plus it is Monday and the inner fat girl in me loves Mondays because I always get Chick-fil-a for lunch with my coworkers and then Chipotle for dinner because Chipotle and the Bachelor go together like PB&J. If it’s one thing that I can always count on to cheer me up, it’s food! 🙂

Day to Night: Bodysuit Style

Day to Night Work wear bodysuit style, How to style a bodysuit

Bodysuits have been around for awhile now and for some insane reason I had put off trying this trend. I had many concerns. Some were pretty logical I would say, like how would one go to the bathroom in a pinch? Or wouldn’t you see panty lines through your clothes? Certainly you can start to see my irrational fear of this trend and why I put it off for so long.

When I was approached by my friends at Luxington Boutique to design an outfit that could easily take you from work to an after 5 cocktail, I jumped at the idea to create an outfit with a piece of clothing that I had never tried before. Insert this amazing olive green bodysuit here.

1. Day Look: Pair a bodysuit with a dramatic wide leg pair of pants to wear to the office. The contrast of a more fitted top and loose bottom will give you a chic look that is totally office appropriate. My favorite office looks are the ones that no one else is brave enough to try but you know will get you tons of compliments. This is that look and the plus side is that it’s insanely comfortable too.

2. Night Look: I firmly believe that every woman should always have a pair of jeans, heels and lipstick on hand at any time. Car, desk drawer, etc. In order to take this bodysuit from the office to after work cocktails, I simply added these 3 things plus my favorite 2 accessories- a black bralette and a choker necklace. These latter 2 items are my favorite ways to add a little bit of edge into your look. Combined, all 5 of these items are the perfect recipe to your casual after 5 attire.

I felt inclined to tell you that I couldn’t end this post without saying that both of my initial fears of wearing a bodysuit were quickly remedied after finding out that 1) most bodysuits have an  “easy-access” snap section so you can go to the bathroom without having to take the entire thing off and 2) so far everything that I have tried to wear with my bodysuit, panty lines have not been an issue.

So if you have been wanting to take the plunge on a bodysuit, I highly suggest getting one that is versatile enough to wear to work so you get the most use out of it! Luxington Boutique is the perfect one stop shop for both work wear and everything else in between so if you are in the Houston area, make sure to stop by and check them out!

*Thank you Luxington Boutique for sponsoring this post. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own.*

“Playing dress-up begins at age five and

never truly ends.” – Kate Spade

One of my favorite reasons to be a fashion blogger is that I get to dress up just because. Sometimes it’s for a fancy event but most times it’s just for all of 10 minutes while my photographer works his magic. So that 10 minutes of glam is what I live for! Honestly when I’m in an outfit for longer than that, all I can think about is how much longer until I can hop into a pair of pajamas.

Last weekend with the Super Bowl in town, I had the opportunity to attend the Maxim Magazine party with a couple of my blogger friends. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but I am so glad that I went. This dress was perfect for the “dress to impress” dress code. Apparently Maxim’s version of “dress to impress” was to basically wear lingerie. The girls and I definitely did not get that memo so you could say we were a little too covered up compared to everyone else. The entire time at the party, I couldn’t help but to people watch. Y’all, the people watching was AMAZING. I saw Kendra Wilkinson, Chase Crawford and several other famous people but I couldn’t even begin to tell you their names. DJ Khaled, DNCE, and Travis Scott performed and you can bet we danced the night away among the rich and famous.

A dress like this is definitely a little daring but radiates confidence! I could see wearing this dress for a special event or gala. The plunging neckline is flattering for those of us oh-so-blessed with smaller chests so that it does not overbear the stunning detail on the rest of the dress.

Would you ever wear a dress like this? Honestly before the blog, I wouldn’t have dreamed of it but there is something so exhilarating about wearing something that you normally wouldn’t dare to and these days I will take all of the little thrills that I can get 😉

For those of us riding the single train this Valentine’s Day, I think I speak for all of us when I say that it’s not a holiday we care to give too much recognition to. Being single on the day of love is like a huge freaking reminder that everyone else (or so it seems) is happily in a relationship, engaged, or married. As if your grandmother dropping not so subtle hints about your relationship status wasn’t enough, stomaching all of the mushy-gushy romance on this day can be rough to say the least.

This will be my first Valentine’s Day alone in close to 8 years and I’m not sure how I feel about it. On one hand I am pretty excited that I am not having to buy a Valentine’s Day gift for anyone besides myself. And you can bet that I WILL be buying myself something because I have somehow convinced myself that that is how the world should work. My logic goes a little something like this: if I were in a relationship, I would be spending a hefty amount of mula on the one I love. Since I would have spent the money anyway, I might as well spend it on someone that I love just as much… MUAH! So thank you nonexistent boyfriend for that!

So to all of my single ladies out there, instead of spending February 14th feeling sorry for ourselves and our lack of romance, I say we celebrate this special time in our lives! On a day that makes us question “Why am I still single?”, “What’s wrong with me?”, “Will I die alone?”, I’m here to tell you that you are exactly where you are supposed to be and you should celebrate the fact that some day you will look back on this time alone and wish you would have lived it up a little more. So here are a few ways stay happy this love day and to be your own damn Valentine.

  1. Stay off of social media– As if most days besides Valentine’s Day weren’t big enough reminders of just how single you are, social media will surely do the trick. You already know that everyone and their mother will be showing off on social media of just how great their significant other is. Do yourself a huge favor and just stay off of your phone for the day. Nobody wants to see the thousands of Instagrams showing off expensive gifts, romantic gestures, and cliche acts of love (as cute as they might be).
  2. Don’t “play hermit”– It might be easy to burry yourself into a hole of self pity complete with Netflix while you drown your tears into a tub of ice cream but don’t succumb to this ladies! The world is not completely out to get you on this day so embrace being single and know you are not alone!
  3. Splurge on something for yourself– Take the money you would have spent on a Valentine”s Day present for your ex and buy yourself something really nice. Maybe it’s a couple boxes of chocolate (you do you girl) or maybe it’s a new bag. Just do it!
  4. Buy yourself flowers– I’m a big proponent that you should always buy yourself flowers. They don’t have to be a romantic gesture from a guy. For something that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg but brings instant happiness, seems like a no brainer to buy them for yourself!
  5. Pamper yourself– Ain’t nobody going to love you better than you can love yourself! Just like you would have spoiled that special Valentine, you deserve a little loving too! My personal favorite pampering sesh goes a little something like this: a bubble bath, face mask, candles and BIG glass of wine. Don’t mind if I do!

Cheers to all of the single ladies out there this Valentine’s Day and may you be your own best damn Valentine out there.
