Houston… are you ready to Rodeoooo?!

If you are from Texas then you already know what a big deal the Houston Rodeo is. Personally, I look forward to the Rodeo almost just as much as I do Christmas and for really good reason if you’ve heard of a thing called fried Oreos! They might as well shut down work and school when the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo starts because it takes precedent over just about everything. And while we might spend the majority of the year trying to convince non-Texans that we don’t ride horses to work or that cowboy boots and hats aren’t a part of our normal everyday wear, all of that goes right out the window when the Rodeo comes to town.

When it comes to Rodeo fashion, the Rodeo might as well be Texas’ own version of New York Fashion Week. For most of us, it’s our one time of the year to pull out the most Texan attire that we own and flaunt it. Suddenly every person is dressed like they just popped out of an old western. While you can bet to find every guy in a pair of Wranglers, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat, the girls get to have a little more fun with their outfit choices. Long story short, just about anything goes as long as you’ve got your cowgirl boots on. If you live in Texas and don’t own cowgirl boots well then it’s about time you invest in a pair if you plan on sticking around the Lone Star State.

A few trends that I always love when Rodeo season comes around are embroidered attire, denim chambray, big belts and turquoise jewelry. I promise you will see it all. And I promise if you do dress to the Southern 9’s that you will not be out of place one bit. You will be more out of place if you don’t dress the part! On top of all of the Texan fashion, you can also bet to find a lot of country music, carnival rides, animals and a total food-lovers heaven. If you haven’t already given up hope on those New Year’s resolutions, you sure will after attending the Rodeo. They can fry just about anything you can imagine- Oreos, Twinkies, cheesecake, candy bars, ice cream, meat, vegetables you name it and they can fry it! You can always go for an old fashioned turkey leg but with all of the endless possibilities, you should probably take a page out of my book and try one of everything 🙂

Whenever I was still working in the corporate world I think I googled “creative office style” more times than I could count. I was sick of wearing the same thing on rotation every week and felt like none of my work clothes were very “cute” or “me”. One source of inspiration that I continually went back to was Mary Orton from the Memorandum blog. Working ladies, she is GOALS. Her outfits were always way out of my price range but I always had fun trying to recreate her looks for 1/20th of the cost she paid:)

If you are in a work clothes rut and looking for a fun piece to add into your rotation, try a midi skirt! I personally love the idea of midi skirts in the office because they are an appropriate length while still being feminine and cute! It’s a stand out piece that everyone is sure to recognize which is one positive. The other is that it’s longer than a pencil skirt which means you don’t have to shave as high LOL. The less effort to get ready in the mornings, the better. You feel me?

I rounded up several other midi skirts that are appropriate for the office and sure to be a staple in your closet. The great thing about all of these is that you could dress them down for the weekend as well. My favorite way to style a midi skirt lately is with a graphic tee and sneakers!

It’s been a hot minute since I did a day to night work wear edition and they are always some of my favorites! While I am no longer in the corporate world, styling work wear is always my fav. I showed these pictures to Mama Adams last week and she goes “You need to stop wearing leggings and start wearing more work wear!”. While I can promise you the leggings are never going to stop, I do want to get better about showing you how to style one piece multiple ways more often because I like the challenge:) So if you have any items of clothing you want me to style multiple ways, let me know! This fun mesh top runs true to size and is a piece that can easily take you from day to night. If you don’t feel like the mesh sleeves are appropriate for your office environment, wear a blazer over it and then shed the blazer for happy hour! I am loving this pink one on major sale that would look cute paired with that top and a black pencil skirt.

My pro tip for all of my working ladies that want to easily transition their outfit from day to night is to always stash a pair of black strappy heels, jeans and a bold lip color (my go-to is MAC “Diva”) in your desk drawer or car. Another item that has found a permanent place in my car trunk as well is a leather jacket because you can’t tell me that this doesn’t automatically up the cool factor on any outfit you put on! There are so many times these 3 essentials saved me from having to make a quick dash home and wasting perfectly good happy hour time! #priorties

January 2019 Top Ten

We are back for another monthly round up of the most purchased items from the previous month. I always love these posts because I enjoy seeing which items you ladies loved the most and which ones took a back seat. I always want to make sure that I bring you the best content and sales so looking over these data for trending items, categories and retailers helps me plan similar content for the next month and hopefully you like seeing behind the scenes a little bit too!

Y’ALL! History has been made over on this little space of the internet. The satin pillowcases knocked the faux Gucci belt out of it’s year long reigning first place title. Not only did it get bumped from first, it got bumped down to third most purchased for the month. Second place goes to a new Amazon designer dupe that is almost too good to be true. Speaking of Amazon, four out of the top five purchased items were from Amazon so it’s safe to say y’all love a good Amazon find!

And as a reminder on how I obtain the monthly top ten data…

I use an affiliate program called rewardStyle. This means that if you click on any link- whether it be from my Instagram or blog- that takes you to a product page on a retailer’s site and rewardStyle is able to track that it originated from me. Some affiliate programs will pay the influencer for every click that they generate from their site. RewardStyle pays per purchase made. This means that if you click on one of my links and then end up purchasing that item, I will get a small commission (usually between 7-12%).  Many bloggers use this same program as part of their revenue source.

Because I use this service I do have access to data analytics. This means I can track what items are clicked on and purchased. I cannot see who clicked on them or what other items might have been purchased. For example, if you click on my Gucci Belt link and then purchase a swimsuit and a top in the same transaction, I will only be able to see that a purchase was made and that the dress link is how you got to the retailer’s site.

These analytics are incredibly important to me because it allows me to see what all of you are liking. At the end of the day, this little blog business of mine is meant to be a resource for all of you so having the ability to track and measure each product’s success is invaluable. Coming from a Finance background, I tend to geek out over the analytics side of it as I find it incredibly intriguing what all of you are liking, buying and clicking on the most! It gets my gears turning because I genuinely want to bring you products that you are going to love and want to buy (at the right price point of course)!

Like I mentioned, this little blog is a full time business for me which means I am so appreciative when you choose to click and shop through my links – whether that be on Instagram or the blog. I have poured everything I have into being a resource for all of you so that hopefully it makes your life a little bit easier. I know that shopping through my links is an extra step for you, but please know it makes all the difference to me. It is how I am able to continue sharing great deals, try on sessions, and everything else. O and it allows me to pay my bills 🙂
