If you are riding the single train this Valentine’s Day and I was the betting type, I’d bet that you are on one end of the spectrum or the other. You either hate today or could absolutely care less. I’ll cut to the chase and let you in on a secret, I could honestly care less. In fact, I had forgotten about the holiday and celebrating it with a significant other until social media shoved the notion down my throat a few days ago. Now if you asked me a year ago how I felt about being single on Valentine’s Day my answer would be completely different than it is today. In fact, I wrote an entire blog post on the how much I hated the holiday here. And while I still really love that post, my feelings towards today and my season of singleness have changed entirely.

Today marks exactly one year since my last first date. One year since my first heart break. And one year that I’ve truly been single. Would you believe me if I told you that is by far the longest that I’ve been single? Up until last year, I had never been without a boyfriend on Valentine’s Day. Well not since high school at least. I jumped from boyfriend to boyfriend for 8 years straight without ever truly being single for long.

And after being single for 365 days I can tell you this. I am thankful for my season of singleness and what it has taught me about myself. How much it has grown me as a young lady and made me figure out how to love myself. I am thankful that through the hurt it brought some of the best days of my life. For without the heartbreak and the soul searching I know for a fact that I wouldn’t have quit my job, I wouldn’t have traveled the world, and I wouldn’t have found such contentment and confidence in the life I have created.

More than being thankful for my season of singleness, I am proud. And while it would be nice to have someone to text throughout the day, share a pizza with, fix my car, see a movie with, snuggle with, laugh with, do absolutely nothing with, blah blah blah, the act of having to do these things alone has given me such a since of empowerment, confidence and appreciation. And through the soul searching and new found love for myself I can confidently say that being single is exactly where I need to be.

If you are alone this Valentine’s Day, recently single, or maybe you’ve been in this season for longer than you are wanting to be- here are some things to remember and celebrate that all of you helped played a hand in reminding me this week.

NOW IS THE TIME TO BE SELFISH

You have your entire life to be with somebody else. While there are so many wonderful and special things about being in a relationship, it also comes with certain burdens. You will have someone else to answer to, check in with, plan around, share costs with, and split your time with. Now is the time to spend too much money, go on that trip because you can, move to a new city, quit your job, start a new job, find a new hobby, and honestly do anything you want. There is not a reason in the world that you cannot do whatever it is your heart desires.

IT’S OK TO BE PICKY

Date if you want to date. Or don’t. It is your choice and your choice alone. The older you get, the more against the norm it is to be single but what my season of singleness (and probably age) has taught me is that we are the lucky ones. We are the ones that have experienced more life. More grief. More soul searching. More happiness. More understanding. We know what we like and don’t like. We know what we deserve and what we aren’t willing to settle for. The longer we are single, the more we realize how much we have to give up to be in a relationship and if it’s anything short of a fairytale, well then it’s just not worth it.

FIND YOURSELF BEFORE YOU FIND THE ONE

If I had to pick one reason why all of my relationships didn’t last, it was most certainly (as cliche as it sounds) because I needed to find myself and I couldn’t do that while I was with someone. I needed time, space and a lot of soul searching. And with each new boyfriend I thought that maybe they could help me figure out what I was supposed to be doing with my life or how to fully achieve contentment. But this is not anyone else’s job but our own to feel content and secure in who we are. I have grown more, seen more, discovered more in the past year than I have my entire life. Our season of singleness allows us to figure out what drives us, motivates us, what makes us feel alive and happy. And when the right person does come along, they will appreciate how well you know yourself and feel secure in who you are.

If you have yet to hear the term Galentine’s Day, you are missing out on a quality girl time opportunity my friends! Whether you are single or in a relationship, Galentine’s Day is (technically) celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, February 13th, and is the perfect excuse to grab your girls and have a good time- no boys allowed!

Galentine's Day

If you are late to the train or don’t feel like going up on a Tuesday, I hear that some ladies like to dedicate an entire weekend to Galentine’s celebrations. I’d just like to point out that these ladies and I would be great friends 😉 Whether you choose to celebrate today or another day, I wanted to share some easy ideas to have a great time. Forewarning: you’ll notice that several of these Galentine’s Day ideas have to do with wine. Not a coincidence. Boys come and go but your girlfriends and wine just seem to get better with time 🙂 Cheesy? Hey, at least it pairs well with the wine am I right?!

WINE NIGHT

Why mess with a good thing? Wether you hit up a local wine bar or decide you want a bottle to yourself at home (#noshame), there is nothing better than wine and girl talk. Except maybe the addition of cheese and/or chocolate. Added bonus: you can add a theme for the night. Mask Chat- where everyone brings their favorite face mask so you can try out new ones! Game night- bring out the board games or my personal favorite- play charades and have each girl write down a few answers. After a few glasses of wine, this one tends to get pretty funny!

SLUMBER PARTY

Adult sleepovers are highly underrated y’all. Maybe you had too much wine at wine night or you just want to relive the glory days- either way they are so much fun and the best way to ensure some serious girl talk. Haven’t seen each other in awhile? It might take all night and all the next morning to catch up on all the hot gossip 😉 Added bonus: binge watch a new tv series together or go see a new chick flick at the movies!

MANI/PEDI DATE

If you are on the go and want to be practical about how you spend your girl time, a mani/pedi or spa day is an easy way to catch up and be efficient if you are in dire need of a polish change. Block of an hour or two, invite a friend (or two!) and head to the spa to get a little pampering session. For all of my working ladies- this could even be on long lunch break.

GALENTINE’S BRUNCH

Like us girls need an excuse to brunch! If you are wanting to celebrate with a big group, brunch is always a good option. If you aren’t a party planner, I’ll bet there is a cute, new restaurant that your group is dying for an excuse to try out! Know a place with $1 mimosas? Even better. But if you are a party planner, Galentine’s Day is a great excuse to put those Valentine’s Day decorations to use, invite your girls over and gab away. Added bonus: have everyone bring a dish or bottle of champagne and make the dress code pajamas only!

PINTEREST CRAFT

You know all of those crafts you pin on Pinterest but never actually attempt because #lazygirlproblems or #busygirlproblems ? They are actually quite fun especially when wine is involved! I suggest picking one that isn’t too labor intensive because chances are between the wine and girl talk, not much crafting will take place anyway 🙂

KARAOKE

If you want a good time and the last laugh, karaoke is hands down a night to remember! Grab your girls, get fancied up (or not), and hit up a karaoke joint. Yea you could karaoke at home but what’s the fun in that? The thrill of totally embarrassing yourselves is what makes the night that much more memorable. And with the intent being a night out with the girls, you don’t have to impress a single person there so sing your little hearts out and don’t worry about who is watching.

TREAT YO’SELF

Afterall, Galentine’s Day is all about celebrating girls so whether you want to go shopping, turn on a chick flick, pour some wine and online shop, it’s always better with some friends! If you don’t have a guy in your life this Valentine’s Day, even more reason to treat yourself to something nice. Added bonus: Valentine’s Day chocolate goes on sale February 14th so if you postpone your Galentine’s Day date until after this, I hear chocolate pairs nicely with your online shopping. With Valentine’s Day falling on a Wednesday this year, I wanted to provide some inspiration for all of my girlboss ladies that will be going straight from the office to dinner. What I love about this dress, is it’s versatility. You could honestly wear it for any occasion and if that’s not a total selling point get this! It is under $50 and comes in 10 colors! I’ve been eyeing the Tea Rose and Vintage Indigo colors next – so perfect for Spring! It does run true to size and is long enough for work. For height purposes, I am 5’4″.

My pro tip for all of my working ladies that want to easily transition their outfit from day to night is to always stash a pair of black strappy heels, jeans and a bold lip color (my go-to is MAC “Diva”) in your desk drawer or car. My badass jacket has found a permanent place in my car trunk as well because you can’t tell me that this doesn’t automatically up the cool factor on any outfit you put on! There are so many times these 3 essentials saved me from having to make a quick dash home and wasting perfectly good happy hour time #priorties If you are still looking for a Valentine’s Day dress or if you are a gal that likes to stock up on versatile dresses that can take you seamlessly from day to night (my type of girls!), then here are a few more options! Also, if you are a fan of these day to night posts, check here for more!

I talked Kylee into another Work Wear Wednesday post because two looks are so much better than one am I right?! I’m not kidding when I said I pulled a 360 in the car when I saw these two shirts in the Talbots window. I’ve recently discovered Talbots for work wear and while I will say they are hit or miss for me, they do have the cutest, festive tops! Their Christmas selection was on point and Valentine’s Day is too. One reason that I love their selection is that everything comes in petite and plus sizing which is great for this petite girl!

Whether you work in an office, a classroom or just want a cute and semi professional outfit this Valentine’s Day (or week of), Kylee and I’s looks are casual enough to take you from work to play. For size reference we are both wearing XS’s in our heart embellished tops. If you aren’t sold on either of these looks or just want some more inspiration, see below! January Top Ten

January Top Ten selling items2018 is a year full of new things for It’s All Chic To Me and I am excited to announce a new series. At the end of every month, I will be sharing the top ten most purchased items from all of YOU! If you are wondering how I obtain this information, let me break it down for you.

I use an affiliate program called rewardStyle. This means that if you click on any link- whether it be from my Instagram or blog- that takes you to a product page on a retailer’s site, rewardStyle is able to track that it originated from me. Some affiliate programs will pay the influencer for every click that they generate from their site. rewardStyle pays per purchase made. This means that if you click on one of my links and then end up purchasing that item, I will get a small commission (usually between 7-12%).  Many bloggers use this same program as part of their revenue source.

Because I use rewardStyle I do have access to data analytics. Meaning I can track what items are clicked on and purchased. I cannot see who clicked on them or what other items might have been purchased. For example, if you click on my Wubby Pullover link and then purchase a pair of jeans and shoes in the same transaction, I will only be able to see that a purchase was made and the Wubby Pullover is how you got to the retailer’s site.

These analytics are super helpful to me because it allows me to see what all of you are liking and buying. While I might love something, it doesn’t always mean that all of you will. Other times there are products that I don’t expect you all to love, and then it gets hundreds of clicks or purchases and I realize I might need to share it a few more times or find a similar item if it happens to sell out.
